It's been two weeks (minus a day) since the SoulKeep game was launched.
Do you play it? What's your impressions of it?
My first week wasn't great, before I learned what towers and spells to use.
The interesting part is that it's not enough to learn what the meta is. It's more important to understand how to use those towers, spells, and upgrades (and hero, if you are lucky to have one) to score higher than others while making sure you complete each map.
While in the first week I had issues completing maps or earning anything in tournaments, I believe I'm past that phase.
I believe I can now complete pretty much all maps for League 2, including or especially the bonus levels, unless I am extremely unlucky. I once thought I was safe leaving the game in the state before clicking "Play" (after the towers and spells were chosen and the game was loaded) for a few minutes, because I got called away. When I returned and clicked "Play" I received a "timeout" error. So, don't do that! 😀
The difference is made by the details:
- the order in which towers and spells are placed
- the position of towers and spells
- the order of upgrades
- using (or not) discount "spells" and when
- using or not a hero and where (don't have one, so I'm talking from what I've seen others do)
Luck plays a role. I tried to play two consecutive attempts the same way. You simply can't. The tower or the spell you might want to use next might be locked, which is another variable where luck plays a role.
The game freezes every once in a while (on my laptop, but I've seen others mentioning it in discord), but I've seen that if you restart the game you get back to the point of freezing (it happened to me when I was upgrading a tower), or if the game was playing, you see the end result.
I checked out the leaderboard to see how many usernames I recognize... Very few, at the end of a tournament's day. That doesn't mean they aren't current players in Splinterlands (the guild name says they must be active players, I just don't know many of them).
I currently have two goals for SoulKeep:
- to win a higher tier reward at the end of a tournament day, besides the Top 50% one
- to get my kills to advance to League 3.
For the second goal, this is where I stand:
So, basically, I still need to kill a lot of epic and legendary fiends before I can unlock League 3.
In my previous post about SoulKeep I wondered if it's worth it to go to League 3 or not, hearing you really need a hero there.
Well, I need a higher challenge, and League 3 might be it.
