Aves and the Chicken - Community Engagement Challenge

in Splinterlands3 months ago

My contribuition to the Community Engagement Challenge. As a big fan of the Furious chicken, I imagined how the chicken met Aves Sturgis for the first time, before they went into battle together to beat up the mighty Kron. As it is a lores told by the fireplace, passed from one generation to the next, there are different versions of the battle. Two of them are written into stone here and here. I hope you enjoy the story!

Aves and the Chicken

The sun has already been up for a while with Aves remaining in his nest, unbudgeable. If somebody asked, he’d say “Meditating”, but if he was honest, he was just getting too old for all this. Great power brings great responsibility, yeah, but most of the time it was just about petty things. The Greatness seemed to be long gone, the wars had moved passed him, they days how his wisdom being important were over. That wasn’t true, he knew it, he just felt sorry for himself, very unwise. Wisdom never stops being important. It’s the beings who stop to perceive it as important in order to justify their endless stupidity. To be truthful, Aves was just bored.

He rolled around in his bed and stared into the leaves, the sun playing with the beautiful green, the spores reflecting the light, a gentle breeze involving the very everything into its harmonious play. He sighed, closed his eyes for a second and thought of a better time, then opened them again and was met with the defiant stare of a set of eyes, placed above a peck and below a red comb. “Bobaaaawk!” exclaimed the peck and Aves instinctively jumped against the trunk of his home, summoned his staff and immediately build a Mana-Wall.

The intrusive chicken tilted its head and asked: “Bawk bo bawk?”, tilted the head to the over side and then walked straight to the Manawall – and pecked it. Once. Twice. Harder. With every peck, it seemed to get more furious, and the pecking speed increased, until the head was barely visible among the speedpecking, and finally and to Aves surprise, the wall dissolved. The chicken stopped. It strode towards the mesmerized Aves, and then inclined its head. “Bawk bawk bo bawk. Bawk bawk. [For sanity’s sake I’ll not write down the whole conversation in Chicken].” Aves listened to the now polite chicken, also known as Alpha Chicken, leader of the Chicken Liberation Front.

The CLF had teamed up with the Centaurs in order to free all horses from the tragic slavery and cruel death that they suffer under mostly human command, but being half human, the centaurs betrayed the chicken and started eating them. As the mightiest of birds, Alpha Chicken asked for the assistance of Aves to challenge Kron the Undying, revenge the chicken and punish the betrayal.

Aves was intrigued. Was this it? The sign he had waited for? Or just another petty thing? Training a chicken to beat the mighty Kron, amongst all creatures? Well, not any chicken, but a chicken whose pecking velocity was faster than the feet for Krash Wanderford. Still, a chicken! Staring at him. Tilting his head again. Suddenly looking down, shuffling its feet, scratching a bit into the ground and suddenly pecking into the wood to pick out a bark beetle, swallowing it in one peace, flapping its wings in satisfaction and returning into the tilted head position as if nothing happened.

“Bo bawk?” asked the chicken. Aves smiled, grabbed his staff and came up to the chicken.
“Bo bawk”, said Aves, smiled and reached out his wing to pet the chicken. The chicken pecked him.
