though it is still cold with icy winds a sure sign of spring is the budding of the magnificent magnolia tree by the commander's residence in the old naval base that is now a park
there are a few magnolias locally but they are not common here so far north. by far the most famous of them is this one in the park.
and rightly so. when in full bloom folk come from miles around to view it
i took a stroll there to see how far along the flowers had come. though it is still budding today it won't be long before the petals unfold.
even while budding it looks great from any angle
the lowest branches almost touch the ground. here the buds are accompanied by daffodils
