Such is a good question to reflect on. What kind of father are you?
The Father
The Father is the man. There are many things that culturally characterize a man. Gender wise, there are expectations from the man. Even in our communities, we have come up to see that men have unique responsibilities. So, manhood wouldn't just be what one should play with.
Responsibilities
Being a father comes with responsibilities. You have the responsibility of catering for your household. This is why it is culturally believed that the father should be the one walking to make money for sustaining the family.
The father has the responsibility of taking the oversight and protecting his household physically. The father should be strong to defend and protect his household.
The Prompt
Zechariah 1:2 (KJV) The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
As I was reading my Bible yesterday, I come cross Zechariah 1:2, then I paused and asked myself: What kind of father are you? I then recalled that there have been fathers who brought fortune to their families as well as those who brought calamities.
Some That I’ve Witnessed In My Community
From my childhood, all through my years, I have witnessed different kinds of fathers in my community. I’ve seen fathers who lost all their children to their witchcraft coven. I’ve seen those who sold all the family inheritance and left the children with nothing. I have seen those who left their children to prostitution and criminal acts by way of trying to find their way through life when their fathers were irresponsible. I have seen those whose indecent lifestyle in the community has turned their houses to objects of ridicules. I’ve seen several kinds of fathers. These are the examples I wouldn't want to resemble.
Also, I have witnessed fathers who came from nothing and strived to lift their families from nothing to fame. Many of them have laboured hard to send their children to school in better schools outside the country. Many of them have the reproach of their lineage to glory and honor. Such are the examples of fathers I want to resemble.
