Unfortunately, un-involved parents have always been. Especially here in the west, anyway. I'm the 1950s I think it was? ...there was a book published that advised parents to ignore babies crying, so that they learned not to cry. And parents did that. Because they thought it would make their child spoiled to ANSWER THEIR CRIES.
Like y'all that's a baby, the only way they can tell you they need something is to cry! But it's still pretty prevalent today, people think they are teaching the baby not to cry.
