CineTV Contest: Movie Review ~ Adire

in CineTV8 months ago

Yesterday I came across this beautiful contest powered by #cinetv, and I loved the contest title, I mean that was what intrigued me, the funny part is for days now, I have been thinking about writing a movie review about this new movie I just watched recently but for some reason, I just couldn't gather words to write about the movie because the truth is for me, writing a movie review is more tedious than writing a normal post but then, when I finally saw the contest challenges asking us to make a movie review about a movie that represents our country, I decided to go back to the drawing board yesterday and after much thought about how to go about it, I finally dared to pen this down today.

I have watched so many movies but one I will be talking about today is ADIRE, Adire is written by Jack'enneth Opukeme, one of the brilliant minds at FilmOne Entertainment, it is a Yoruba setting and has got beautiful actors whose acting skills in the movie is topnotch and they played their role and character given to them well.

This movie is about a lady who works in a brothel as a prostitute but against her wish and in order not to pay off her debt to her master because she saved her life so in other words, she owes him her life, and she endures the daily selling of her body by her boss to different men.

One day, she decides to escape after facing a heart-wrenching beating from one of the men her boss sold her to for the night, she steals her boss's money and sneaks out of the brother in the middle of the night while everyone sleeps without anyone noticing.

She finds a small village far from the city where she is sure nobody will know who she is and settles there, she pays for an apartment that is known by the people as a haunted house and decides to start her life afresh, or so she thought. She decides to launch her own lingerie business, but then she realizes that her beauty caught the attention of many men in the town and she became the talk of the town once again.

Every evening, she dresses up and goes to the only bar in the town and men frolic around her begging to have their way with her, they pay her and they get down with it, one way or the other. Men both married and single started gunning for her attention and leaving their homes with wives to spend more time with her.

The women of the town especially the church women started a protest against Adire but nobody dared to approach her especially when they realized that she lived in the haunted apartment except for one woman who sneaked into her room in the middle of the night, both ladies settled their differences and Adire taught her how to dress beautifully to attract her husband's attention and keep him glued to her.

She went home, put into practice all that she was taught and when all the women noticed the change in her dress sense and her husband's attitude, they all wanted to know the secret, so she told them and took them to meet Adire who gave them beautiful lingerie and taught them how to dress.

What Adire didn't know was that her good deeds and attitude got to the preacher's wife's ears even before she was seen in person and this caused hate in the preacher's wife's heart towards Adire.

Even though everyone saw Adire as the community prostitute, a widower with a daughter named Folashade falls in love with Adire but the odds against their relationship are too much as her master comes back to get her to continue

The pastor's wife's role in the movie is a typical example of what many people who think they are born again or believers, do to those who are unbelievers, she became a judge of everyone who one way or the other made mistakes in life and she got to know about their past life and made living in the community for those people miserable.

Every one of the characters in that movie played their role perfectly especially Adire. Even when Adire got to know first that the pastor's daughter was pregnant out of wedlock against her mother's belief, she never at any point used it against the pastor's wife, especially in cases when the pastor's wife embarrassed and taunted her in public, she instead walked away and that was a commendable scene.
