How to Make Easy Empek Empek

in Foodies Bee Hive11 hours ago

This traditional dish comes from one of the cities in Indonesia, known as empek-empek and is made with a combination of ingredients that you can easily find anywhere.

Empek-empek

Empek-empek is a processed fish, shrimp or meat dish that is shaped and then enjoyed with sauce. This dish comes from Palembang and is quite famous in Indonesia. We can find a lot of this dish now, but we can also find a lot of different recipes. Here I will prepare an economical version of empek-empek made with shrimp. You can substitute shrimp with other ingredients you like. Now empek-empek itself has several types and what I made this is empek-empek submarine, although the results are far from the professional people who make it but I am quite happy with the always delicious results of this dish.

Here I made 2 variants with egg filling, and also empek-empek without filling. Now here I will invite you to prepare the ingredients!.

Ingredients

Empek-empek Ingredients

100 grams prawns
200 grams tapioca flour
50 grams wheat flour
1 egg
1 spring onion 1 celeryleaf
4 cloves shallots 2 cloves garlic
½ teaspoon stock powder
½ teaspoon salt

Complementary Ingredients and Sauce

1 cucumber
2 red chilies
Palm sugar to taste
2 cloves garlic Salt totaste

Making Procedure

Step 1

Cook flour with a little water until sticky and become a paste

Step 2

Blend prawns, onions and also spring onions and celery blend until smooth.

Step 3

Combine the cooked mixture with tapioca flour, add spices and stir.

Step 4

Season with salt and also broth powder then knead until smooth.

Step 5

After that, beat the egg, then form the dough and add the egg, do it slowly and carefully because the egg can break from the dough, fill the egg according to taste. Here I made 2 shapes without filling and also with filling without eggs I made it elongated.

Step 6

Bring the water to a boil then boil the empek-empek until it rises to the top.

Step 7

Once cooled, fry the empek-empek in hot oil until golden brown.

Step 8

While waiting for the empek-empek to be fried, blend the garlic and red chili and then cook with 500 ml of water, don't forget to add palm sugar, cook until boiling. For the cucumber, chop into small squares, take only the flesh.

Serving Suggestion

Serve the empek-empek and cut it into pieces, then add the sugar sauce and cucumber on top. Serve in your best serving plate and enjoy the 3 combinations in one bite. Melting in the mouth, chewy with egg filling inside and sweet and spicy sauce is enough to make this empek empek dish delicious. The addition of fresh cucumber slices adds to the unbeatable deliciousness.

This is my first time making empek-empek with egg filling, I usually make it without. But the taste is still the same and very delicious. Now as I said, empek-empek is usually called submarine empek-empek because it is enjoyed by stirring it directly with the sauce. For those of you who want to try one of these traditional foods make it at home, you can replace shrimp with fish, meat or whatever you like.
