Yep...
I went a little crazy of trying out all sorts of food, from cooking in the office, to ordering food delivery (which I haven't done for a really long time), to getting end of the day display food. Everything has their unique flavours and satisfaction.
Please do take note that I actually do strive to be as thrifty as possible, hence the "fancy looking" ones are self experimenting cooking from half priced ingredients.
but to see it all at a go, here's what you can see at a glance!
I have always loved rice wraps, but recently the maki (sushi) has been becoming smaller and "less healthy" as they used a lot of mayo and canned food; so I tried out Kimbap (Korean rice wrap for the first time)
They are a lot of pickled vegetables and slightly on the sweeter side, but hey they are still non canned ones as they are wrapped in lettuce and egg with rice and seaweed.
I got this last near the end shelf from K (Korean) mart close to my home. Usually you can't get it as they are all taken at a quick rate. Yes, they are actually quite popular.
To be able to get it for 30% discount was definitely God's favour! I get to enjoy these for the first time at a lower rate.
Being preoccupied with the Korean theme, I was swayed with the longing of having some warm kimchi soup; but to have a proper meal costs almost 30 MYR (close to 8 HBD / USD) and instead of just enjoying one meal, I decided to get instant noodle pack imported from Korea with fresh frozen vege and seafood ingredients
The taste wasn't out of this world, and I didn't purchase the expensive Samyong brand, however this portion was huge enough to keep me satisfied for almost 4-5 hours working which was good enough for me, and my taste buds were satisfied with the instant kimchi soup.
As usual, when I crave for a wrap, I always go for Subway because that's literally the cheapest when I ordered the sub-of-the-day and requested double packed fresh vegetables.
I must say, if you are on a tight budget and want to eat relatively healthy (with fresh vegetables), this is definitely the only way to go in a buzzling city of Kuala Lumpur
However, that being said, I took a "step of faith" and ordered a burrito for the first time from a relatively new restaurant that actually serves various flavours including a Korean theme Bibimbap style (beef stew chucks)
The taste is actually not too bad, but a little too watery on the sauce side. Good thing is that they had double wrap so by 45 minutes arrival, the food is still warm and my hunger was satisfied for a good 4 hours!
But since I am on a sandwich craving rest of the week, I stumbled a half priced baguette on sale, so instead of ordering food daily, I decided to make my own sandwich.
I also managed to grab some "dying lettuce" (just needed water to revive it as it still has healthy roots) for half price and that was definitely a sale not to be missed!
With the panini maker in the office, I decided to make some maashed mustard eggs with lettuce, some good cheese and made sure it is well pressed and warm.
Nothing beats freshly cooked food!
Instead of doing another sandwich I decided to chop the baguette into smaller pieces and made this "scrambled panini egg", as a layer for the bread slices to stick on. They do serve a nifty good snacking in late afternoon as I don't eat for dinner.
I do try to maintain as 2 meals a day if possible.
Except cheat Friday
Snacks?
I have been recently blessed from my friend's wedding where I get to enjoy all these variety yummy tarts and small cakes that was leftovers from the lunch.
I even went a bit adventurous trying out a "carbonated coffee"!
I can only say it doesn't taste as ideal as I would have hoped; but remarkably. This one can has lasted me the whole day without feeling the need to have a 2nd cup of coffee!
Speaking of saving money from coffee!
I was also blessed with a box of free cadbury cookies, and boy that's the extra treat of the week!
But as usual, nothing is always free and always comes with a price. Its expiry date is next 2 months so I guess the company is just trying to clear stock.
Last but not least, what sparked my curiosity is this Thai seaweed snack. Usually Thai snacks don't do Japanese / Korean; but I guess fusion is the way to go now!
