RE: Kombucha preparations

in Foodies Bee Hive8 months ago

Okay found some pics after digging. Starting with the obligatory SCOBY shot:

Blorp. Here are my flavouring jars. I did a two step method (ferment unflavoured, then three days anaerobic in the two jars w/ flavour, strain into final bottles for carbonization (and occasional explosion)).

My fav pics are of the label I had designed. Never a serious venture to brand it, mostly for funsies:

Sort:

Oh my word - this is brilliant!! 😂 That branding; what a fun project! Did you gift friends and colleagues with your kombucha then? Or was this desgin-work for your eyes only?? Just, it's such a laugh! ("cleanse the soul . Reach your potential . Believe in yourself", modlylies.com/kombucha" - haha!!)

And the obligatory scoby pic - very blorp. So splendidly gross. It's a wonder this ugly, squishy mass creates a thing like kombucha, isn't it...? Nice preparation method for fermentation. I suppose, over time, I'll build some confidence and develop a bit of a routine like this, too - if I enjoy it.

I def shared a few bottles around for a lark! Good times, thanks for inspiring me to go back and look for those pictures.

Nature is a wonder for sure. I came to enjoy my familiarity with my SCOBY and its layered offspring. Mad scientist vibes. When it became unviable due to neglect I truly felt bad, haha. But many... trillions (?) of little creatures got to call it home for many generations so it had a great run :)

Haha! Mad scientist vibes, indeed! 👩‍🔬 And don't worry, you're not alone in feeling bad about potentially harming a scoby...! I was nervous I might get too attached... but now you've sealed the deal by reminding me I'm responsible for a whole metropolis of microorganisms. You've really put the pressure on now, @jfuji, haha. And glad to hear you shared a few bottles - so fun!! 💫
