Hello, Foodies and Hivers!
At the end of last week, we had a problem with the car, it overheated a couple of times and a friend suggested we go for a radiator cleaning. It was Saturday and the penultimate day of the year, so the chances of finding an open garage near home were slim. We were recommended one in Sarria, a populous area in the center of the city.
The three of us went. It was the weekend before my son had to go back to college and we didn't want to miss the opportunity to be together. Fortunately, the mechanic shop was open and we had the radiator maintenance done.
As I sat there waiting and watching the mechanics work, I remembered that I had read a post on Instagram a while back about a ceviche place in the area that according to the post, it was very good.
So, since it was around noon and it was hot, I thought that a fresh ceviche would be good for us and I started looking for the coordinates of the place. It is called Ceviche Verano. My husband and my son immediately bought me the idea of going there when we left the mechanic shop.
The place is on the Calle Real de Sarria. And it is quite particular because you order in a small place that overlooks the street. To order you have to wait on the sidewalk.
And once you order and pay, they tell you to go to a house a few meters ahead.
It is one of those old houses with a hallway (zaguán).
When we entered what would be the living room of the house, there were several tables and some waiters were attending the orders.
We sat at one of the tables. And first came the beers we had ordered.
Then the portions of tostones that came with a chimichurri sauce and were toasted and delicious.
And then the ceviche we ordered. We had no idea of the portion size, so we ordered a large one to share to start with but ended up ordering an extra portion.
We ordered the ceviche mixed with fish and shrimp. But there were other options on the menu, a fish-only ceviche and another mixed option with shrimp and octopus.
It was delicious.
The place also has live music. I guess only on weekends, so there was a girl singing boleros. It was a nice touch for the ambiance of the place.
We spent a long time eating and chatting. It was already past noon, and the place was emptying.
We left very satisfied and looking forward to repeat on another occasion and happy to have made this delicious discovery.

A finales de la semana pasada tuvimos un problema con el carro, se nos recalentó un par de veces y un amigo nos sugirió que fueramos a hacerle una limpieza al radiador. Era sábado y el penúltimo día del año, así que la posibilidad de encontrar un taller abierto cerca de casa eran pocas. Nos recomendaron uno en Sarria un populoso sector en el centro de la ciudad.
Fuimos los tres. Era el fin de semana previo a que mi hijo tuviera que volver a la universidad y no queríamos perder oportunidad de estar juntos. Afortunadamente el taller estaba abierto y nos hicieron el mantenimiento.
Mientras estaba sentada esperando viendo a los mecánicos trabajar, recordé que habia leído una publicación en Instagram hacía un tiempo acerca de un lugar en ese sector en el que vendían ceviche y que según la publicación era muy bueno.
Así que como era cerca de mediodía y hacía calor, pensé que un ceviche fresquito no nos caería mal y me puse a buscar las coordenadas del lugar. Se llama Ceviche Verano. El marido y mi hijo enseguida me compraron la idea de ir para allá al salir del taller.
El lugar queda en la calle Real de Sarria. Y es muy particular, porque ordenas en un local pequeño que da a la calle. Para hacer el pedido tienes que esperar en la acera.
Una vez que ordenas y pagas te indican que vayas a una casa que está unos metros más adelante.
Es una de esas casas de antes con zaguán.
Cuando entramos en lo que sería el salón de la casa, había varias mesas y algunos camareros atendían los pedidos.
Nos sentamos en una de las mesas. Y primero llegaron las cervezas que habíamos pedido.
Luego las raciones de tostones que venían con una salsita tipo chimichurri y estaban tostaditos y deliciosos.
Y luego el ceviche que pedimos. No teníamos idea del tamaño de las porciones así que para empezar pedimos uno grande para compartir pero acabamos pidiendo una ración extra.
Lo pedimos mixto, de pescado y camarones. Pero habia otras opciones en el menú, de pescado solo, y otro mixto que además de camarones traía pulpo.
Estaba delicioso.
El local además tiene música en vivo. Eso supongo que sólo los fines de semana, así que había una chica cantando boleros.
Estuvimos un buen rato comiendo y charlando, ya pasaba la hora de mediodía y el sitio se fue vaciando.
Nos fuimos muy satisfechos con ganas de repetir en otra ocasión y contentos de haber hecho este delicioso descubrimiento.
