Change is a factor that is constant in life. Science has made up theories of man's evolution from cave men to space dwellers, from men who hunted with crude tools to men who are computerised. Change is inevitable whichever way we look at it.
More than physical change through the times, it is vital that humans change with the times. Anyone who does not change with the times is considered as a immutable and obstinate. In fact such persons are difficult to deal with because they would never be welcoming of whatever views of change that is brought to them.
There's a popular saying that I have kept close to my heart and it has helped me even as I advance in life. That saying is....
Only a mad man does the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result each time.
This saying has helped me evolve with change as it comes and manage these constant changes. First it began as I neared adulthood. Coming from a family that neither talked about sexuality, I needed to know how to handle myself and also wanted to find out the truth about what I heard from my mom once that "touching a boy would get me pregnant" hehe. Thank goodness we have Biology.
My quest for the truth is another factor that has helped me accept changes that come my way. That is what makes me so science inclined because science deals with facts and tests to prove things as true. This also makes it easier for me to let old beliefs and systems go.
I don't abhor change, I see embracing change as a huge stake because living is risky and it will be more risky to live life with the same old ideals and principles.
The more I kearn, the more knowledge I acquire and the better I become as I grow and face life head on. Sometimes changing from what is known to a new unknown thing can be sometimes hard, just as leaving a comfort zone for an unknown place too seems difficult. It can only be overcome when we see the bigger picture that the change is for our own good.
When Mary Slessor stopped the killing of twins in Southern Nigeria, the indigenes were obstinate and tried to obstruct her and the change she was bringing but centuries later, those people are now benefitting from the changes made.
Change might be in the negative but the kind of change I'm describing is positive one. The kind of change that seeks one's betterment and growth towards the future.
