The time has come round again for the Euros and it is looking to be an exciting tournament being hosted this time in Germany. I was previously in Germany for the World Cup in 2006 which was a great atmosphere and I am sure although not as big, the EM 2024 will also be pretty big.
I did apply for tickets for a few games in Frankfurt, but didn't win any of the so called lotteries which is a shame. Instead I will have to make do with watching the games on TV, which is also ok.
Usually I like to have a flutter during the big tournaments like this and once I picked Greece to win back in the day, since then my track record has been pretty bad. England and France seem to be the odds on favorites at the moment according to the bookies. I think if I was a betting man, I would be more inclined to take the odds further down the table with Spain, Italy or Netherlands being my 3 possible picks to win overall. I am not usually great with tipping, so this isn't financial advice!
I have given my opening match predictions to @blanchy on his post and have gone for mostly the favorites except maybe we could get an upset with Hungary against Switzerland (possibly a draw as usual from those guys) and maybe Poland against the Netherlands.
The big opening game should be a cracker because the home team who should be on good form will take on a lively Scotland who will hopefully make it a fun game to watch.
If I was going to bet, I would possibly go for betting the outsiders in the tournament, especially those with oversized odds as there could be a good chance of a few upsets and the favorites are likely to be overbet. If I was going to go for a draw strategy, I quite like any with odds over 3/1 if you can get it on.
However, my really fun strategy and the one I would go for would be to bet on all matches with Correct Score 3-3. The odds of them happening are quite low, but if you get one that hits, it could give a nice pay day and they are fun to put on. Germany/Scotland is 140/1, maybe higher on the exchanges. @Blanchy knows this strategy is a winner! haha
My plan over the next few weeks is to enjoy some great football, have a few beers and good food while the tournament is on. Good luck to all those taking part in the Hive competition and looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. Who do you fancy to win?
Thanks for reading.
