New Garden Update: Yam Planting And Mulching

in Homesteading3 months ago

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while that I have made a blog on this amazing platform but I'm happy to back again to share with you about my new garden update regarding my yam planting.

It's with great pleasure that I'm welcoming everyone to my blog and I hope you're all doing well and having a great day. Like I said earlier I will like to share with about my recent yam planting.

This is the first time I will be going in to yam farming, even though I'm quite familiar with the process of planting yam when I was living with my uncle in the village and I have also watch many videos online as well.

Due to economy instability and how cost of living keep soaring higher in my country Nigeria, then I want to make sure to make used of every available means to cater for my family and I believe farming is one of those steps to quench hunger. Even if is not much I believe it will play a certain role.

I believe that you don't have to plant as many crops as possible to become a farmer but rather you can start as little from your backyard and become a Gardner.

Since I don't I want to make sure to utilize every opportunity to keep planting my own food which I have been doing for years and if you have been following my blog for a while then you will know that.

Planting yam is not really hard things to do and for me to plant some today, I have already left some space in between my maize plants.

Actually my maize plants has not been growing up well due to army worm but I will be updating you about that in my next blog.

These are the four yam tubers I planted and if you look at them very well, then you will notice that some of them have started to germinate.

While planting the yam tubers, I make sure to dig the soil up to 5cm deep and I will have to wait for rain fall so that the germination can fast. But right now I will be watering the seed for now.

And finally, I make sure to mulch all yam tubers I planted to aid fast development and improve soil temperature.

That's all for now but I will keep you updated regarding the development.
