My Aunty has not been a fan of garri. She usually complains that drinking garri or making eba with it causes her stomach pain. I have known that.
But then something happened. Inflation struck Nigeria and some food items became so costly that one could only think of buying them when it became imperative. Not that I don't know that Auntie Jane is considering taking those food stuffs she excused herself from, but I just wanted to be curious.😃
I went out and bought a few cups of garri with kulli because I was hungry and food wasn't available then until we had finished cooking, which could have taken a few hours later. I soaked the garri then my cousins and I did justice to it.
We had finished drinking the garri when my aunty came in and asked: “Where is my garri?” “Aunty, we have finished the garri. I thought you don't like taking garri because of your stomach!” I replied. Aunty was angry while I and the children made fun of her.😂🤣
This is the hidden truth: the current economic situation in Nigeria has made many people adjust their lifestyle. It might even sound funny but the truth is even our biological systems have come to realize that living in Nigeria now is not like before. Many things (in attitude and preference have changed)
When I evaluate the present policy trends of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I seem to accept that we should give him time. One could say, we gave Buhari time, what came out of it?. I think the current administration is going in a different direction. I seem to see the light down the line.
I believe that removing the fuel subsidy is what we have to allow. We just need to bear a bit as I believe that somewhere along the line fuel prices shall crash down far far lower than ever.
I heard about Local Government autonomy. This has been a lingering issue all along but this government has signed it into law. When that comes to full manifestation, most of the corruption in the state governments will cease and even local governments will create jobs for their locals.
This is just the beginning. As my aunty has adjusted to eating garri without complaining, I believe that Nigeria will adjust to a better life in a better country. Insecurity will one day be a thing of the past.
