Day 12 in #marchinleo, and this time is about body image and how we perceive ourselves. Funny thing about that, I often got eyes rolled when we talk about traning and motivation, as I tell people that I like to eat, a lot, and my motivation to go to gym is to burn enough calories so I can eat one extra meal. Each to their own, right. I am a bit aware of my body, and I try to keep myself in shape, well, most of times. My perfect week is just 2 gym visits and a nice walk every day. Other than that, not so much, if I do not count the ocassional football or table tennis game.
That being said, I know everything that it is to know, it is just that sometimes I do not follow the right path. But then, show me somebody that it is perfect with all these things. My secret hobby is alligning well with this line of activity, as, in my free time, I like to know everything about how to delay ageing and to go further into completing the immortality quest.
Few words about it? Nice! Basic basics - the common sense rules, for someone to be healthy, you just need to eat sensibly, using good quality food, to drink at least 1500ml of water daily, to sleep 8-9 hourse and train moderately at least twice a day. That's all, and we know it, but do we do it? No, not really.
Then we go for prolonging life and living healthy, for longer. There are two main area that we should focus, that could have the biggest impact on our lifespan. Balance, training our balance is vital to prevent falls, which are the most likely the cause of death for many people, as at some moment you will break something during a fall, and your body will never be able to heal, getting you to a downward spiral leading ultimately to your death. Balance training is easy to learn, and one session with a trainer in a gym can teach you most of it. As I age, I can see that, with some knee or elbow problems that use to heal in a few weeks when I was 20, taking up to 6 months to completely heal now that I am approaching 50. What is worst, all those injuries can translate in six month when I am not able to train to the gym. I learned the hard way that now I cannot do the training that I was easily using as a teenager, and I accepted that.
The second important thing to prevent accidents is hand strenght. I you train for it, chances are that you may catch something around you, preventing a fall. Hand strenght is the second most important factor that can prolong your healthy lifespan.
And here I am, as I was supposed to talk about body image and self confidence, and I ended up talking about how to live longer and avoid death. Yes, when we are young we are looking at insta and Facebook models, perfect bodies, six to eight pack, fancy cards, expensive clothes and freshly bought yachts or airplanes. All this is nothing but vanity. We will not talk about those guys/girls that rent a Lambo or a plane for a day to look rich, not even about the ones that really are. Yes, it will help to be rich, but the research showed that money tend to increase happiness and quality of life up to a limit, and that limit is 75K per year. Everything above that is bringing minimal improvements. Now you know! If you are lucky enough to make that much, you don't need to worry. If you can do that much from crypto, curation or staking, then you are set for life. This is the material objective.
As you get older, you learn that you have limits, especially when you talk about your body. If you are clever enough to find those limits, and gently pushing them a bit further, without overdoing it, then you will be fine. Slow is good, when you train long term. This will even work for the weight loss. Five kilo lost in 2 weeks will come back in two weeks, if you follow some taxing diet. Five kilo lost in half an year may never come back, you you create a habit and learn how to maintain it.
Learn your limits, push them further, without exaggeration. Work to maintain your muscle mass as you age, focusing on balance and hand strenght. Promoting something that you are not is only an illusion. The one one to compare with should be you, one year ago. This is how you know if you are doing good or not. You will pay for every decision you make, so why not choose to do what you really like and need? Nobody else really care about you and your dreams, if you do not count close family and real friends.
