I've been thinking about this question for a while now, and I’d love to share my thoughts and hear yours!
When I first came across AI, I have to admit, it made me a bit anxious. I felt a strong need to brush up on my skills and knowledge so I could keep up, especially since I was the primary breadwinner at home.
During that time, I saw some friends and colleagues losing their jobs, which only added to my worries. I wondered if something similar could happen in Nigeria too. Even though I tried to improve myself, it felt like AI was moving ahead at lightning speed, which started to turn my feelings about it sour. I promised myself I would avoid AI as much as possible; until I realized how much it’s already woven into our everyday lives, like in our smartphones!
I also heard some pretty intense opinions in certain churches, claiming AI was somehow linked to negative forces trying to undermine our minds. I’ll admit, that sentiment hit home because I was already uneasy about it.
But then, one afternoon while I was out for a walk (definitely not down an aisle😂, but on my way home!), a thought popped into my head: AI can’t outdo humans because it doesn’t think for itself. It just does what we ask of it. I spent some time mulling it over, and here’s what I came up with:
AI was designed by people and relies on the information we give it to work. It can only do what it’s programmed to do; it doesn’t have a mind of its own. The notion that AI might outsmart humans often comes from letting it take over our thinking. Many AI systems will even tell you that they weren’t made for certain tasks! In the end, AI should be seen as a handy tool to support us rather than replace our unique human abilities. Let’s embrace it as a way to make our lives easier!
Let me balance this: it would be smarter and outdo some people, especially those who allow it to do almost all things for them. You want to make sure that where its response stops, your brain can advance its solutions, and this is also suggestive of the fact that you should feed your mind with intelligent resources and stop consuming surface-level information.
This is my submission what do you think?
