It doesn't happen often, but occasionally wild turkeys get brave enough to come up on my deck and grab a bite to eat from my bird feeder.
When the ground is covered with snow and we have had a few days of freezing and thawing, the snow becomes crusty with ice and it must make it more difficult for the turkeys to break through and find food on the ground.
It is always a bit startling to glance out the window at the feeder and see these giant birds on my deck. The regular feeder visitors do not come around while the turkeys are having a snack!
I was able to get a close up view of this Tom's legs as he stood on the deck railing and see his vicious looking spurs that he uses during mating season to fight off the competition.
It was raining and it was rather funny to see this big old guy shake himself off like a dog, before he hopped down and went on his way!
My security camera caught a bit of the action.
