Good day, silverbloggers. Today I want to respond to the #memoirmonday 41 prompt by @ericvancewalton. The prompt requires our favorite story book as kids. The link to the prompt is here
The only interesting storybook that was available in our home when I was a child was the book of Bible Stories. Please, don't be offended that I am sounding religious, but my family is a core christian home. My dad was equally like a clergy. He paid attention to religious materials and events more than anything. So, even though we were not furnished with the necessary school books and educational materials, he didn't lack Bibles and Bible related materials at home.
The materials that were available at my disposal won my admiration such that I grew to appreciate and fell in love with those. The pictures of the Bible Stories book attracted me and my siblings a lot that we almost ran to it anytime we want to look at pictures from books. So, without any doubt, the Bible Stories book became my favorite storybook as a child.
Not as if my parents were not interested in raising me academically, it was their financial strength that made them boycott some of the necessary educational materials. What I used to do in those days was that I would take a look at my classmates' textbooks and scan through them when we get to school. I could not have the leisure of enjoying any of these stories as I wish. When we came to class we were made to share with those who have the textbooks during the lessons sessions. So, pupils like me who did not have their own textbooks were only scanners on others’ textbooks during lessons.
The Bible Stories influenced my life a great deal. Looking at the pictures and reading the stories regularly made me learn many things from the Bible. I grew to know a lot of bible stories and bible characters. My dad was not tired explaining the stories behind each of the pictures to us everytime we asked his attention. He made us enjoy the stories.
Famous among the stories were the story of Jesus' birth, the story of John the Baptist, the story of Daniel in the lion's den, the story Queen Esther, the story Moses and the Red Sea. There were very many interesting stories in the book. I can't even forget the story of David and Goliath. These stories were very interesting. These stories were full of many moral lessons. My life has been shaped by the lessons my father used to teach us from those stories.
