The world has evolved in the last few decades into a very different jungle from what I knew in my early days. I looked at it that it is a matter of few decades because I have only been around for four decades 😊
What we know when we were younger is not what we are seeing now that we are getting older. It is not as if our age is the factor of change, it does mean that the values and perceptions of people about issues in this present world has changed.
Ethics And Norms
The cultural ethics and norms which were passed unto us by our parents; which we so much cherished and treasured have degraded greatly. The traditional setting of the core African dwellers has some values that hold our community and defines our way of life. Those values have eroded due to generational intolerance to most of them.
In those days, we were very respectful. We have respect for elders and those who are in authority over us. We were taught and we practice the habit of helping and assisting the elderly. Talking back to an elder was not our lifestyle. We could stand up some elderly person to sit in public places while we choose to make the sacrifice of standing.
These days, our younger generation does not attach any Importance to having respect for elders. Helping the older ones we meet on the road turns out to be a waste of time. We have young people who do not even respect their fathers not to talk about others. So, true values and societal norms (which were of good moral quotient) have been eroded by the sign of time.
Losing Life Span
I sometimes wonder why the lifespan of people around me is less than it was in the olden days. I have grown up seeing my grandmother and my great grandmother. They lived quite longer.
We are in the days when technologically, there have been technological advancement in many ways. In such a situation, there should be more older people now than in years past. But the case is not that way. We seem to have people who live quite less than in ancient times.
Memory has a lot of ways to make us realize what is happening around us. We will have reflections and thoughts whenever we remember days past. I am thrilled through the #memoirmonday initiative of @ericvancewalton. You can learn more about the initiative through this [link](
