MY MOTHER'S WEAVINGS

in Silver Bloggers10 months ago (edited)

For a long time I observed my mother dedicated to her handicrafts, she liked to sew, embroider and knit, but she only used sewing as a means of production. She embroidered for the family and the house, she made many kitchen towels with figures applied and embroidered on the border, she also made all her layette for my first son, which was passed on to my daughter and then to little cousins, and so little by little it was left in the hands of other babies who needed it, that is why I have nothing saved, at least I have not gotten anything in my trunk of memories.

But what I did get in my mother's trunk, was part of her collection of crochet magazines. How sad that she never wanted to sell her creations, she had a huge collection of knitted tablecloths and folders of all patterns and sizes. I remember that a couple of times she knitted tablecloths for two ladies who were friends of hers, but that was many years ago, I was a little girl.

I called her spider because she was always knitting something for the family. At Christmas and on all of our birthdays, that was her present, that's why I have so many knits saved. I never set out to learn, the most I managed to do was a chain stitch, and once I made a blouse knitted with two needles when in the 80's came the craze of blouses made with colored wick yarn.

Her patience in making those crafts was amazing, and I was even more amazed at the speed with which she made each knit. Once she was late to make several for Christmas because she had not been able to buy the material, and in less than two days she had several folders for coffee tables and corner tables for the 5 women in the family; my three cousins, my aunt and me.

A set of binders could bring 3 and even 4 pieces; the center table in the living room, the corner tables by the sofa, and some side shelf or bookcase nearby. My mother even made us sets of folders or woven cloths for the living room and dining room that had up to 8 pieces, because they included the tablecloth for the dining room table and cloths for the display cabinet, the library that was always located between those two spaces, and the TV shelf, which in my aunt's house always had a small cloth with some ornament on it.

My mother was the one who made all those fabrics for us, and I know that each of the women in the family treasure them.

Thank you very much for the support. Happy love day to all.

How beautiful!
I knit, but very simple things, nothing so elaborate.
How nice that you keep all your mom's creations, they really are a little treasure.

Thanks honey, I would have loved to knit like that but never set my mind to it. But I will give it a try, even if it's just a little, it's never too late.

Eso es verdad!! Nunca es demasiado tarde para intentarlo. Saludos!

Very nice. They were made with a lot of love because they were for your family. Keeping them is a very precious memory. Thank you for sharing them with us. 🥰

Thank you. You are right, she put a lot of dedication into the details she made for the family, and each creation is as beautiful as the other. I take great care of them. It was a pleasure to share them with you.

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Those are some awesome treasures. It's also nice that they have been passed down through other members of your family and they appreciate the creations. Means more when you have a little sentimental value attached to them. Our Nieces and Nephews are not at the right age yet to appreciate those things that I do. So I keep them safe and one day maybe they will and will want to have them.
Beautiful and detailed work! Enjoy them and the memories 😁

Hi sweetie, yes, truly these knits and your crochet magazines have great sentimental value. I will treasure them. The clothes sadly not, but it does give me satisfaction that they continue to pass on to hands that need them.
Thank you for visiting me and leaving this nice comment. Hugs!

What a treasure you've got! Amazing work by your mom. I would say she's gifted, an expert in her craft. The designs are elaborate and unique too.

You know they are? I hadn't noticed that. She never repeated any design, at least the ones I have saved, and the ones that were hers are all different. She really was very dedicated to those three trades, because they loved them, especially knitting and sewing. Thank you sweetheart.

It's the first thing I noticed from the photos you have shared :) And now, you just confirmed she didn't repeat any design so each of her pieces is truly unique. That's simply amazing. 😍

Wow so beautiful
