Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday, the 5th day of March, 2024. The UEFA champions league round of 16, second takes place today. Two matches are ongoing. Bayern Munich vs Lazio and Real Sociedad vs PSG.
Bayern is already (3-0) up against Lazio at the Allianz Arena courtesy of two goals by Harry Cane while PSG is beating Sociedad away (1-2) with Kylian Mbappe scoring the two goals. Let's see how those two games will end at the final whistle.
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the Switzerland. He finds out that on this day in 1798, Napoleon invaded Switzerland and captured Bern, bringing an end to the country's historic ruling organisation, the Confederation of the Thirteen Cantons.
From Switzerland, Larry goes to the Soviet Union. He finds out that on this day in 1953, Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin died in Moscow, Russia, U.S.S.R. at the age of 74, and Georgy Malenkov succeeded him.
From the Soviet Union, Larry goes to China. He finds out that on this day in 1955, Mo Yan, a Chinese novelist who received the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature for his innovative and humanistic fiction, was born in Gaomi, Shandong province, China.
From China, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1979, the United States of America space probe Voyager 1 passed over Io, the innermost of Jupiter's satellites, and observed nine active volcanoes on its surface.
From the world of space exploration, Larry goes to Venezuela. He finds out that on this day in 2013, Hugo Chávez, a politician from Venezuela led the country as a populist President from 1999 to 2013, adopting the chavismo philosophy based on the socialist political programme of South American independence hero Simón Bolívar. Chávez passed away at the age of 58 in Caracas.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Israel. He finds out that on this day in 1934, Daniel Kahneman, an Israeli-born psychologist and corecipent of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2002 for his work integrating psychological research into economic science was born in Tel Aviv, Palestine [now Tel Aviv–Yafo, Israel].
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
