Replacing broken clutch lever, with help from "El Gato" (English/Spanish)

A loving greeting to all my Hive friends. It is a pleasure to be again in this beautiful community sharing with you a new experience with my motorcycle. As I told you several weeks ago I was riding in a beautiful town called Capacho, being there my dear @aly.squid and I fell off the bike going up a slope. The fall was not so dramatic, nothing happened to either of us and apparently the only thing that the bike had suffered was that the thread of the left rearview mirror had been isolated.

When we got home with the help of the tools we adjusted it again and that was it, as if nothing had happened. But a few days later we noticed that the mirror was vibrating a lot, we checked it carefully and it had an almost imperceptible crack where it connects to the clutch handlebar. Clearly we realized that we had to change the clutch handle, because with the vibration when walking the crack would become larger and end up falling the mirror.

We immediately went to several places but none of them had the original handle. So we put a special glue in the crack so it would hold a little while we got the part. But one night while traveling on a bumpy farm road, the vibration knocked the mirror off. We rode for a few days trying to get the original handle but it didn't show up and it was really uncomfortable to ride without visibility to the rear, especially on the left side.

In those same days we went on a trip to the city, we were very worried because in rush hour traffic is overwhelming and having visibility to the back and sides is essential. Leaving the town where we live we always check the air in the tires with one of the mechanics known as "El Gato". He is a very friendly and funny guy, always has a joke to tell. He saw us without the left rear view mirror and immediately told us he had a clutch lever. Of course it was not the original one, but it would certainly do the trick.

The whole process went very quickly. The first thing he did was to remove the broken handle and discard it. Then he proceeded to take the other one out of the packaging and fit it in place. It was fun to take pictures of El Gato because he was a bit intimidated, we explained a bit about Hive and even invited him to join in, so he kindly allowed us to take pictures of the process.

Then I take the mirror and take it to a table in the back of the workshop and there with the help of a press I unscrew the part of the broken piece that was left in the thread of the mirror. I return and put it back in place and then adjust the mirrors so that they were at my height.

Like I say, it was fast and fun. Really having a trustworthy person to take care of these things makes us feel very fulfilled. Since both Aly and I are very insecure to do that kind of attentions to the bike and although it seems very simple we prefer to have someone with extensive knowledge to do it.

We left there very happy, ready to ride and enjoy the road, safe and comfortable. With the necessary visibility to execute a good driving, which does not put our lives or those of others at risk.

The part cost us only 3 $US. And Gato didn't charge us anything for the installation. So we were not only happy with the service but also with what we paid for. The handle is comfortable and friendly, a little harder than the original but not annoying. We are happy with the purchase and above all anxious to keep riding.

Cambiando la manilla del embrague rota con ayuda de "El Gato" (Ingles/Español)

Un saludo amoroso para todos mis amigos de Hive. Es todo un placer estar nuevamente en esta hermosa comunidad compartiéndoles una nueva experiencia con mi motocicleta. Como les conté hace ya varias semana estuve de paseo en un hermoso pueblo llamado Capacho, estando allí mi querida @aly.squid y yo nos caímos de la moto subiendo una pendiente. La caída no fue tan dramática, tampoco nos pasó nada a ninguna de las dos y aparentemente lo único que había sufrido la moto era que se había aislado la rosca del espejo retrovisor izquierdo.

Al llegar a la casa con ayuda de las herramientas lo ajustamos nuevamente y listo, como si nada hubiese pasado. Pero a los días notamos que el espejo estaba vibrando mucho lo revisamos con atención y tenía una fisura casi imperceptible donde se conecta con el manillar del Embrague. Claramente nos dimos cuenta que había que cambiar la manilla de embrague, pues con la vibración al andar la fisura se haría más grande y terminaría por caerse el espejo.

Fuimos de inmediato a varios lugares pero ninguna tenía la manilla original. Así que le pusimos una pega especial en la fisura para que aguantara un poco mientras conseguíamos la pieza. Pero una noche mientras viajábamos por una vía agrícola con muchas piedras y baches, la vibración nos tiró el espejo. Andamos unos días así tratando de conseguir la manilla original pro no aparecía y era realmente incomodo andar sin tener visibilidad hacia atrás, sobre todo del lado izquierdo.

En esos mismos días nos salió un viaje a la ciudad, estábamos muy preocupadas porque en las horas pico el tráfico es abrumador y tener visibilidad hacia atrás y los lados es fundamental. Saliendo del pueblo donde vivimos siempre revisamos el aire de las llantas con uno de los mecánicos conocido como “El Gato”. Es un chico muy amable y divertido, siempre tiene un chiste que contar. Nos vio sin el espejo retrovisor izquierdo y de inmediato nos dijo que tenía una manilla de embrague. Claro no se trataba de la original, pero sin duda serviría.

Todo el proceso fue muy rápido. Lo primero que hizo fue retirar la manilla rota y desecharla. Luego procedió a sacar la otra del empaque y ajustarla en el lugar correspondiente. Fue divertido sacarle fotos a El Gato porque estaba un poco intimidado, le explicamos un poco sobre Hive y hasta le invitamos a unirse, así que amablemente nos permitió sacar fotos del proceso.

Después tomo el retrovisor y lo llevo a una mesa que tiene en el fondo el taller y allí con ayuda de una prensa desenrosco la parte de la pieza rota que había quedado en la rosca del retrovisor. Regreso y lo ubico en su lugar y luego ajusto los espejos para que quedaran a mi altura.

Como les digo, fue rápido y divertido. Realmente tener una persona de confianza que se haga cargo de esas cosas nos hace sentir muy plenas. Ya que tanto Aly como yo somos muy inseguras para hacerle ese tipo de atenciones a la moto y aunque parezca muy sencillo preferimos que alguien con conocimientos amplios lo haga.

Salimos de allí muy contentas listas para rodar y disfrutar de camino, seguras y cómodas. Con la visibilidad necesaria para ejecutar una buena conducción, que no ponga en riesgo nuestras vidas ni las de los demás.

La pieza tan solo nos costó 3 $ americanos. Y Gato no nos cobró nada por la instalación. As que no solo salimos contentas con la atención sino que también con lo que pagamos. La manilla es cómoda y amigable, un poco más dura que la original pero tampoco llega a ser molesta. Estamos felices con la compra y sobre todo ansiosas de seguir rodando.
