Hello friends and Hivians. I hope everyone had a Happy New Year's day!! Today I want to share with you my son's basketball accolades up to this point. The season is almost half way over and his play has been so consistent.
As a team, they have an overall record of 7-1. They are leading their conference with a record of 5-0. There one loss was to a team in Nebraska which doesn't have any weight for playoff seeding in Iowa. The team has been busy since there last game on 12/20. They have been practicing and scrimmaging other schools during the holiday break.
The next three games they have on their schedule will be tough. There next game is against the reigning Nebraska state champions. That will be a tough game and it's on the road at the opponents court. It's a game in particular I hope he does well because there will a lot of figures there watching such as college coaches, local news paper and television reporters. I'm scheduled to work that night and hope the aircraft (bird) coming in slips it schedule so I can attend.
The two games after that one are against tough conference opponents we haven't played yet. One team is undefeated like us in the conference while the other team lost a close game to that team. One is at home while the other is on the road.
How's he doing among his division at the state level? I say he is among some of the best players in the state. As you can see by the screen shots above he is 5th in the state in points per game, 2nd in free throw shots made in game, and tied for fourth in free throws attempted in game. Among those that lead in free throws made and attempted he shoots the best percentage.
Is he drawing any college scouting? The short answer is yes. He hasn't been offered anything yet. I took a screen shot from his high school coach that sent him a text. A lot of schools have athlete questionnaires they want prospects to fill out before they will talk to them. It's a good thing his coach is requesting him to do so. I almost guarantee that some recruiters have asked the coach about my son.
The next two screenshots are from prephoops.com, it's a place where sports writers give opinions and rank high school athletes. In order to read articles and see rankings you have to pay a subscription. Being a parent, it's a no brainer to pay the subscription fee.
He was mentioned in an article about the Top 10 Division 4A scorers. It was a nice write up by the author and pretty accurate to the most part. If you don't know what shooting splits are I will explain using his numbers. So 60/53/83 means he shoots 60% overall from the court, 53% on three point shots, and 83% from the free throw line.
These type of write ups and having these numbers draws attention. Now he did have a hit on his profile from a college coach. I told him we have to work on his profile. His profile is pretty basic. There is an area where videos can be added. He has got plenty of them which he can add there.
In every game this year he has at least scored 18 points. It just shows how very consistent his game is. In 8 games he has 174 points and there is still 13 regular season games to go not including the playoffs. He could run close to 500 points this season if the have a deep playoff run. That's a lot of buckets!
So far he has made 57 buckets in which 20 have been beyond the arc for 3 points. He has also made 40 free throws and grabbed a total of 46 rebounds. Other statistics include dishing out 13 assists and picking up 5 steals. He is having a stellar senior season.
I really hope his consistency keeps continuing. I would love to see him play some more at the next level. I know it has been his dream of playing basketball beyond high school. Plus it would be good for his dad not having to pay college bills.
Oh there is one last thing I want to mention and I almost forgot. Last weekend he went to college scrimmage he was invited to where he played against a very famous sports figure. The person was Terence "Bud" Crawford. You heard of him? If not he's the current welterweight boxing champion of the world. Widely known as the pound for pound best boxer in the world.
My son says he has got some good ball skills and his entourage that day included some overseas professional ballers. Unfortunately there wasn't a photo shoot but my son said they dabbed each other up after the scrimmage was over. How cool that must have been for my son to shoot hoops with the Champ.
I hope you enjoyed me telling you about my son's basketball journey. I hope it isn't a lot of overkill, it's just that I'm a very proud father. I'm sure I will write again soon on more.
Take care, stay safe and enjoy the first week of 2024. Until next time!
