Not Bearing The Weight Anymore!

Well Hello There Horsepower Lovers!!

The First In A While!

Yeahp we use to get a great deal of these! A great deal!

However we did get these from Ford the other day! A quick bearing replacement on a Ranger differential's sideshafts! I have absolutely no idea why Ford doesn't do these themselves.

But we wont be complaining, a job is a job right! Now if I can be completely honest with you I despise these bearing jobs! I have no love for them at all, it's not hard persay but it is more than tedious!

That's why I am not at all fond of them! The tediousness of it all!

The grease in this one has turned all black, yuck right!

Always Do Both!

Only the one bearing failed on this vehicle however replacing both is very much recommended!

It's the same with what I did when I replaced the control arms on my car the other day and the shocks, you just have to do both of them otherwise you risk doing the other side sooner than later because of it not being on standard with the otherside!

What I love to do is clean everything out nicely when everything is torn apart, I'd have it no other way! Oh no not just with a cloth, nah we wash everything out with parafin, everything!

Doesn't that back plating look beautifull all cleaned up?

This Was Concerning!

The one wheel bearing that was seized up actually sat quite tightly inside the housing itself!

I got a little concerned because I had the press all the way up to 15 tons! That is wild! Yes it's a 50 ton press but pressing a wheelbearing at 15 tons is REAL WILD!

They are press fitted but dang man these things go in at 2 tons and less! So for it to press out at 15 tons is WILD! It must have gotten way hot for way long!
Fortunately it did eventually press out!

A Pretty Sight!

Okay might not be for most but I am certain that to a techie like me this is without a doubt a satisfying sight to see!

Them shiney new bearings!!

Now the most important part is to not screw them up while press fitting them into the housings! You'd think that to be somewhat impossible but some guys out there really manage to screw up a bearing press!

It doesn't happen fast, no it happens when you don't focus on what you're doing! Seriously! I've been doing this for half a decade and so far I've never messed one up! So why should I in the other half of the decade or the years after that?

I'm not saying that one has never went in skew with me but I stopped and didn't press any further and proceeded to press on one side alone! That straightens it out and makes the job right!

Nice And Snug!

Now that is one job done and dusted with!

Sort of... I mean the bearing is pressed but I still have to assemble the entirity of the sideshaft! Honestly the easy part is done with and now it's off to the tedious part! The part I don't like! A constant pressing of this and that can really become annoying!

However! As long as I can get the job done with, the faster the better and then we can move off to some entertaining stuff again!
