I just finished A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal and I'm giving it 3.5 stars It did start with a similar plot to Six of Crows, involving with the heist to steal an object from an impenetrable place to save a club, etc., with a dash of Peaky Blinders setting thrown in, but overall it reads differently from SoC, more YA-ish, with more romance. It had a bigger focus on the characters than on the plot, and while I liked the characters well enough, especially Jin, and the turn the plot had about colonialism, I think the author could've done better with the worldbuilding and the pacing - the middle of the book was a struggle to push through, and considering that was when one of the big plot-lines was happening, it was little underwhelming. The ending was full of twists and turns, some of which I was kinda expecting, some that were very nice, and it definitely got me curious about the sequel. I would've liked more lore about the tea and the vampires, and in general more time spend in Spindrift as it was one of the most promising aspects of this story, yet it was underused and not explored properly. I think I'd have enjoyed it more if it had less focus on the romance, especially on the Arthie-Laith-Matteo situation.
