Some time ago, when I showed you the interior of this church, the only functioning church on the territory of the old city of Nessebar, where the concentration of churches is the highest in the country, I left this picture aside. I posted way too many pictures of the inside of the building anyway, yes, there were posts with probably 30/40/50 pictures, that's how it was in the past. But that's another topic. I put this picture aside as if out of some fear of God, even superstition. First, you see what this picture shows - the gifts that people gave to the icon because it fulfilled some wish of theirs. Second, you must have read something about the Black Madonna and her sanctity. Well, whenever I meet a Black Madonna so unexpectedly in an unexpected place, it's... unexpected. Here, you see, I can't even express myself for fear of saying some wrong thing. It is simply about holiness, in every sense and in every dimension.

Soul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you. |
