Character Design Studies #5

Hi everyone! 😄

It's been a while since I've posted any character design studies here - it's true that I'm doing less of that, I did a lot of it at the beginning of my drawing practice journey as I got used to practising, but then I did less.

Here I wanted to draw some classic characters like Mickey and Goofy - one funny thing I've noticed is that it's easier for me to draw Dingo than Mickey, although I think he's notoriously harder to draw than Mickey.
But now I'm used to drawing Nala, my dog, and as I drew her more and more I began to recognise facial expressions and typical shapes, and that was really the first step towards cartooning. A cartoon dog is a dog with only those typical features, exaggerated and without superfluous details.

So, Goofy is a dingo (in French, the character itself is called Dingo) and when I drew him, I mechanically drew the lines I used to do for Nala, so it seemed much easier.

And it's great to see the bridge being built between realistic drawing and cartooning, both of which look so different and yet complement each other.

Donald Duck, on the other hand, seems so difficult to draw. I have never studied the duck's beak, nor have I ever drawn a cartoon duck or birds.
So drawing his features didn't remind me of anything, which is why it seems so difficult.

Then I drew various characters, from Disney or Warner.

I also drew the Dr. Facilier from The Princess & the Frog, at first very quickly and badly, so I made an another attempt (his face is quite hard and precise and needs careful study)

And, one character that I really like because of his complex personality, John Silver from the Treasure Planet.
