Sounds like a good idea to take a rest day. Overdoing it is not a good idea, steady reasonable effort is always better than trying to push it too hard regardless of the fitness level. I am very fit, but I learned it the hard way recently with my left knee and my back. I am taking it easy in 2025 and hopefully will control my tendency to overdo it :)
