We Are Alive! Late Night County Convention

in #alive4 hours ago (edited)

It's county convention, when we gather together and determine the "slate" of electors to go to the State convention next month. It's a 3-in-one convention - there's the county convention, then it separates into two districts which have their own conventions and vote on a "slate", then everyone joins together again and concludes the county convention.

Sounds complicated, but it's not. Unless people obstruct, complicate, yell, express outrage, disgust and disappointment. We got all of the above, in what otherwise would have been or should have been a quick and easy convention.

But thankfully a cheerful baby makes it so much easier! And cookies too!

The county convention begins with a temporary chair starting things off. Among the first items of business (after a prayer and pledge) is to elect the "permanent chair", which is a funny title, since they are not permanent at all, they only chair for the county convention!

Before any votes, the county bi-laws are read determining the method of voting for all all three chairs. The proposed method for electing leadership (of this convention and caucuses) would be a "standing vote". A simple voice vote in favor or not in favor was taken to approve this rule. It was almost split 50/50, and the temporary chair said the "ayes" had it, but a member called to "divide the house".

But then an argument broke out on how to properly "divide the house", usually "yes" will stand up and be counted, then the "no" will stand up and be counted - but there was one (very bossy) individual absolutely INSISTING we must literally divide the room, with yes on one side of the room and the no's on the other.

It took over an hour just to get the "divide the house" votes in to determine how we will vote for the rest of the evening. This was clear obstruction to prove a point - that only a "roll call" vote would be acceptable. Roll call means the name of every delegate (present and not present) is called and if present they stand and pronounce their vote to the entire congregation. It is a way of control, since it become publicly known your position - the exact opposite of a secret ballot. This is how people get marked and labeled. Possibly black-listed or excluded. It encourages factions. But it's the only method that nobody would dispute the results.

But there's always one thing that makes these conventions more enjoyable - a cute baby!

Lauren and I voted for a "standing vote" to speed up the process and not encourage factions, however we didn't realize at the time how needed it was to do a "roll call" just to satisfy those who are convinced of corruption.

We got up from our seats and stood on opposite sides of the room and were counted. The voice vote was accurate when the chair said "the ayes had it" and standing vote won, but those voting against it insisted they were under-counted. But this is highly unlikely.

So that was first hour of the convention... choosing who will run the convention. It was proposed that the temporary chair be unanimously selected to be permanent chair as he ran unapposed.

It was just a power-play to see how people will vote and to run the clock ensuring this convention ran late into the night, hoping people will leave before the final vote.

But remember... cute baby!

The convention began at 7, by 9:30 we separated into the two districts. It took 2.5 hours to just get started.

Our district caucus began by voting a permanent chair (for the caucus) and as agreed we performed a "standing vote". The number of votes was higher than the number of expected delegates present. Instead of checking the credential report, we "divided the house" (again). It was discovered that we have even more votes than expected. Then we went through a "roll call" vote which took almost an hour and we confirmed the number of votes and finally accepted the results. It was very close, only seven vote spread.

Cute baby!

Once the permanent chair of caucus was elected it was smooth sailing after that. There was a lot of waiting for the "slate" to be put together. It was supposed to be already put together, but there were three individuals arguing over which names should be on the list.

This back-room "slate" thing is not good. This is why everyone is so suspicious, because the leadership of either side of this dispute both want to CURATE the slate of electors to influence the results of the election at State Convention.

After an hour (10:30) the venue began getting nervous because they only had the building until 11. They said they would be kicking everyone out in 30 minutes.

When 11 came around, they began turning lights off (LOL) and suddenly the "slate" was ready. The two caucaus' came back together and the entire list was read.

Most of the delegates were still present for the final vote and a voice vote accepted the slate. We were concerned that the slate would be voted down and an alternate slate would be presented. But that didn't happen. This venue wasn't messing around - we had to be out of there! (gladly)

We managed to get out of the convention at 11:30 or so. Way too late for a little baby girl. Way too late for daddy and mommy. And cute baby!

A convention like this should be concluded within an hour, two at most. But this convention was almost 4.5 hours. Ugh. #politics

Thank the Most High God for cute babies!!!!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

It's amazing how something that should be simple can be so complicated by arguments and obstructions. I imagine patience was tested more than once. Thank goodness you guys were distracted for a while by a baby and cookies to relieve some of the tension.

Those disagreements about how to count the votes always generate distrust and lengthen the whole process. Here in Venezuela we have also had our fair share of discussions in assemblies and meetings. In the end, the important thing is that we were able to elect the permanent president and approve the list of electors, even if it took longer than expected.

It went better than it could have gone. We've been to county conventions that didn't dismiss until after 3 AM. Makes 11:30 seem like a walk in the park. !BBH

Local politics is routinely made harder than it has to be. I should better articulate this idea, and name the principle :)

Sounds like a late night, but a happy baby will always put people in a good mood!😇😀
Enjoy the weekend my friend!😀

It seems the baby enjoyed the convention more than his parents.😂
