The dividing line between believers and non-believers is simply how people respond to authority. Our knee-jerk reaction is to simply "trust the authority" and since most regard "science" as authority, this translates to "trust the science". But then when real scientific facts are presented, it becomes obvious that it's not really science that is trusted, but the authority structure that is trusted. The system. They believe the system cannot lie on that massive of a scale to it's slaves (ehem) citizens. But it's not a LIE system, it's a BELIEF system. It's not like Santa Clause where all the adults are in on it and the children fall for the hoax. It's a lie that's BELIEVED on a massive scale and has become self-sustaining. We have been programmed to trust the authorities, believe the authorities, otherwise society at large will laugh and mock - all the while they are defending a belief system that makes no sense at all. What, you believe Santa isn't real? No, too big a conspiracy. All the adults would have to be in on it. I mean even CNN would have to be in on it!
It's good to have beliefs, even if they don't make sense, so long as they can't be disproven. Having these beliefs disproven should cause the believer to reevaluate their beliefs. I believe a man walked on water and rose from the dead, doesn't make any sense, but there is no way to disprove these events. As absurd as it sounds, it is still completely possible and even plausible. Other people believe a man walked on the moon and returned alive, doesn't make any sense and there are many proofs that this did not happen, it is impossible. It's not even plausible. It's only accepted because "it is known". It is believed.
The only authority that can be trusted is the authority that made us, namely the Most High God of Multitudes. The one whose authority we will be held accountable to on the day of judgment.
