Hello Hello Silver Bloggers and indeed all Hivians
I like to do my own thing as I am sure most of you do too. That comes to Hiving as well.
But today I gave myself a KUTA (Kick Up The Arse) and decided to perform a JIT (Just In Time) article/post in response to a prompt I had seen.
As a moderator in the Silver Bloggers community I have been fortunate enough to read and curate many posts that have been written for the Memoir Monday initiative that was created by @ericvancewalton
You can catch his original post here or the prompt for this Memoir Monday #18
This week’s Memoir Monday prompt:
What simple pleasures of life do you truly enjoy?
First of all, I should point this week infact ends today ... I did say JIT was my post for today!
First things first ...
The older I get, and from a purely selfish standpoint I hope there are a few more years yet, I have found that the simpler the thing the more pleasure I take from it.
Being a Project Manager I have long been an advocate of the KISS principle.
The last S alternating between Stupid and Sweetheart depend on the sex of the person I was talking to...
... or being politically correct I guess it would be Keep It So Simple as opposed to Keep It Simple Sweetheart!
As we age our priorities change
I know mine have. I started downsizing when I hit 30. Gone went the 4 bedroomed house and now we are happy in a wee one bedroom flat.
What the fluff do we need so much tat for. All it does is cause problems when siblings go through belongings of their deceases parents/relatives.
I use to collect things, not anymore, afterall I don't need to as Mrs T is the collector and a yarnaholic.
So what simple pleasures of life do I truly enjoy.
I remember reading in the blog of @edith-4angelseu where she mentioned bed linen.
She nailed it, we change the bed linen, sheets duvet covers etc on a Sunday! Boy oh boy it is a rush on Sunday night to see who gets into those sheets first.
There is something magical about getting into bed with fresh sheets.
Now if that is not a simple pleasure, then I don't what is!
When I was younger I would buy whatever without looking at the price tag. Now I am all about value!
Yes we have whoopsies where they have to sell no later than the sell by date on the package.
Quite often I will go shopping to see what the whoopsies are and then knock up a meal!
I blame it on my Chemical Engineering background, I just love experimenting, I don't use recipes but I sure love to cook.
A feeder ~ Mrs T describes me. Well I was brought up to always wear clean underpants as you never know when you will end up in hospital and you always eat a full meal as you never know when you will eat again!
Travel, I used to love to travel. But working over the world in the oil industry usually in a wartorn area and having been in 69 countries has taken its toll...
I have flown countless times, in all sorts of planes and helicopters, often every day for months on end.
That mind you was in the days when you could check in and go, now there is no more rolling upto the airport twenty minutes before the flight leaves...
I can't stand flying now. We travel by boat.
Mrs T is American and has seen a fair few European countries and loves travel too, but in moderation!
This was on a ferry to Amsterdam last month as part of our Silver Wedding anniversary celebrations.
The simplest thing that makes me happy is seeing or knowing there is a smile on the face of the ones I love.
I think subconsiously that is what I try to do on a daily basis.
It helps when you like some of the same things.
I think my love of value came from swapping wives. Wife 1 Scottish and wanted everything the best! Wife 2 American and feels guilty spending money.
Mind you Mrs T says wife 1 got the gold whilst she got the shaft 🤣
Having a sense and humour and being fun costs nothing but it is a wonderful thing.
One of the simplest pleasures I have is to keep learning...
It does not matter what it is, I will try to keep learning.
You can see wee Ted up there on holiday in the Orkney Isles where I used to live. Well Mrs T made him and of course I have tried to learn to crochet and these knitting things ... It is the right thing to do after all!
This summer has been awful, that is one thing gets to me, is the cold and damp, Although it is not cold, it is fluffing cold for summer and has got into my bones this year.
So I think I will close out with some of the simple pleasures that make me smile, these are of course of the sea and blue skies!
Nature I love, and that extends to wildlife. I am sure you all know how much I love walking to the local park and feeding our animals up there.
So I won't dwell on this too much, but to say Mother Earth needs our help to stop killing her.
She provides us with the most amazing free pleasures!
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the new week ahead!
