Drink It In
On another night, in other light,
maybe we would have shared a glance.
With another beat, or other feet,
perhaps there was a slim chance.
Never been much of a drinker,
But I get the attraction for sure.
Wash away memories of days gone,
Hallucinate toward those to arrive.
The repetitive act of glass to lip,
and a wince as it slides down.
Pour the next and then another,
Block the bad and dull the worst.
For another stand, or other man,
you could have just walked away.
To another girl, to other worlds,
you needn't have made me stay.
Drop at a time to fill the glass,
One swallow to empty it again.
Day and night, light and dark,
Blurring into the endless greys.
There used to be someone worthy,
A fool with a foolish heart.
He was never much of a drinker,
Now not much of much at all.
Gone another day, gone other ways,
the path has faded into the same.
Left another tear, left other cares,
All that remains is the shame.
