Greetings to my hive family, parenting is an act of raising and educating a child from childhood to adulthood. Hmm parenting is an a difficult task coz it's not too easy to raise a child from childhood to adulthood coz of the many challenges being faced by the mother or the father. Although time changes and change is the only thing that's constant in life which means parenting in the oldies is not as of today.
Parenting in those days is quite simple compared to today coz of the dynamics of today compared to the oldies. Nowadays, we can say we are in the jet or tech age when everything just happens in a technological way compared to the analog days of our own time
.
Parenting in those days are much more easier because of the fear being instilled in the heart of the children being raised then , there's fear everywhere, children don't disobey their parent anyhow, there's respect for parent not only the parents alone, but to older ones in the society. I could remember one of those days when my mum was teaching me my mathematics assignment and I told her I can't know it, the woman gave me a dirty slap. Also, there's another instance when my mum bought a powder peak milk and in those day, I used to climb our dining table chair to take out of the milk placed on the wooden shelf in our sitting room. Hmmm, guess what? When the judgement day came, I didn't know that my mum knew that I av been stealing or taking from the milk, so she decided to send me to buy her sugar and I was telling her not to take tea but she insisted and I went to get the sugar but on my way, fear gripped my heart and I knew there's trouble already , when I got home, i was mercilessly punished and since then i never did such again, although I was punished but at the same time i learnt to be a good boy. So the fear that existed then and the self disciplined of the parent really made parenting then simple and infact worked effectively.
But now due to the advance in technology and the rising vices in the society, the reverse is now the case, there's lack of fear in the heart of today's kids, they fear no one and at the same time, the indiscipline act of the parent is another thing causing havoc on parenting nowadays. The kids now have free access to phone learning things that are affecting their moral negatively, some even watch porn and some other bad attitude on the social media , I'm not saying that the social media is bad in the real sense of it but it's not really helping parents in their act of educating or bringing their children up in a very good manner which is now making it so difficult for good parenting
.
Another thing that is making me sad is the indiscipline on the part of the parent . Some in the guise of showing love to their kids are making parenting too difficult for themselves, they can't even correct the wrong doings of their wards talkless of allowing others to correct them, some even go to the extent of spoiling their wards with gift that will make parenting too hard for them. I have seen a situation where a woman was talking to her friend and the kid was making contribution which dare not happen in our own days, children of nowadays now use the gift of phone given to them by their parent to do cybercrime, hey watch nude pictures of opposite sex , they use it for exam malpractice and so on . Some parents even back their children in all these vices which later in their parenting act will be easy to correct and take away from the children, hence telling tolls on them.
Although, it's not that we should not love our kids but it must be with adequate measure. One thing I believe in is that parenting and our culture is inseparable, it's different from one culture to another. So, parenting now is hard to those days.
Human rights activities of nowadays is another thing making parenting so hard in this new century and this tends from the importation of the foreign culture to our Nigeria culture where you can't deal or punish your kid as you wish. Although I'm against corporal punishment, but we must instill the necessary fear in the heart of kids coz no kid will not want to be stuborn.so, not punishing them portends danger for the future.
Also, both the father and the mother must be united to train a child not that one should be over pamparing and the other using iron fist, both must come to term on the disciplinary measure to be used on their wards
