Introvert Talks - Am I A Lone Wolf?

Welcome to Introvert Talks!

"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)

This is my second post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.

So much has happened in the financial and crypto markets over the past week! For me, it was both information overload as well as excitement overload. On my Discord, I saw so many dormant chat groups and channel suddenly spring to life as many started to discuss about the price movements.

Unfortunately, most of the people I know in real life have no interest when it comes to investment or even cryptos. They probably still think cryptos are a scam. During these times, I am just glad that I still have places like Hive or even Discord chat groups where there are like-minded people to just chat about cryptos. We are indeed still early.

To some, cryptos is just all about speculation, gambling on memecoins, or just a get rich quick method to become a millionaire and not having to work another day in their lives, but to me, it's really more than that. There's communities like Hive, games like Splinterlands, and many more good use cases. And that's maybe why I enjoy coming back to Hive everyday to read what people are talking about.

Anyway, this post is not going to be financial stuff. Because I don't think I am qualified to advise or recommend to people what stocks to buy or what cryptos to buy. We all have our individual risk appetites and investment styles.

And I digressed. The other day, I chanced upon a personality type called the "lone wolf" personality. To bring everyone up to speed, here's what ChatGPT summarised for the "lone wolf" personality.

  • The "lone wolf" personality refers to someone who thrives independently, often preferring solitude over large social gatherings. People with this personality are introspective, self-reliant, and may enjoy working alone rather than in groups. This type of personality doesn’t dislike people but finds energy in solitude, often feeling more comfortable and productive when alone.
  • Lone wolves can be misperceived as unfriendly or aloof because they tend to avoid small talk and social engagements. However, their reserved nature often hides a thoughtful, considerate individual who simply prefers the inner world over the external one.
Key Traits
IndependenceLone wolves are highly self-sufficient, relying on themselves for motivation, emotional support, and decision-making. They often prefer doing things their way without depending on others.
IntroversionMany lone wolves are introverted and find peace in their own company. While they may enjoy close connections with a select few, they generally avoid large social events.
Deep ThinkingThey tend to be reflective and introspective, analyzing situations and thinking deeply about life, work, and relationships. This trait often makes them insightful but can also lead to overthinking.
Selective FriendshipsLone wolves usually value quality over quantity in friendships, investing in a few close, meaningful relationships rather than seeking a wide social network.
Strong Sense of PurposeBecause they are motivated from within, lone wolves often pursue their goals with dedication and focus. Their resilience and drive are some of their greatest assets.
BoundariesThey usually set clear boundaries, respecting their own needs and limits and expecting the same from others.

I was quite shocked because I find myself relating to this description so well. In fact I could say it's 100% accurate. Even the part about being "misperceived as unfriendly or aloof". At the workplace, sometimes I don't get recognition for the stuff I do because I don't showcase myself that much even though I put in effort as well. Over time, it just became something that I have grown to accept, because that is really who I am, and it is really very difficult to change my personality.

One part that stood out within the description was the "Strong Sense of Purpose" key trait, that people with "lone wolf" personality are "motivated from within" and "pursue their goals with dedication and focus". As I grew older, I realised that is really the case for me. When I feel strongly about something, I am motivated to give my very best, and that motivation is really generated from myself. But if I don't feel strongly or don't believe in something, it's really challenging to motivate myself to do it. People have labelled me as "stubborn", but I think I am just stubbornly focused on stuff that I feel matter to me most, and what's wrong with that? :P

Summing up my self-talk, I think every personality type has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. If you have a unique personality and is very different from people around you, that's okay. You are special. There is no need to try to change in order to fit into people's expectations, because you will never be truly happy. It took me a long time to realise this, before gradually accepting and embracing my personality, and I have never been happier.

So, what about you? Are you a lone wolf too?

Sort:

o it. People have labelled me as "stubborn", but I think I am just stubbornly focused on stuff that I feel matter to me most, and what's wrong with that? :P

That's how people would describe too 🤣 I really think a lot of things don't matter to me as long as I am doing something with it and happy about it. It took me a while to actually get this comfortable that all these might not bear anything but I know, my happiness matters hehe

I think lone wolves are pretty misunderstood sometimes. I met these types and I think they're actually great in conversation as long as you shared similar interest and isn't coming off too strong. Some people are pushover and I think lone wolves generally don't like these kinds.

Yeah you described it perfectly too! We just prefer heart to heart talks compared to small talks.

I think they are misunderstood because not many people in the society are like that. I used to go restaurants to dine alone, people thought it's weird because restaurants to them were meant for gatherings with friends. Oh well. We live for ourselves hehe!
