English Toffee Day + Día del Toffee Inglés [Eng+Spa]

It's Monday, it's also the first real work week in my country. As I have said in other publications, the first week of the year only people who have shifts, or guards, work, so it is from this week that many activities really get underway. In my case, my #life doesn't change much, I work from home and I didn't have to go out, so it can be said that my beloved family is still as always.

It is expected that in a few weeks the temperature will rise a little and feel more appropriate for a tropical country. It's not that I like excessive heat, in fact, I dislike extreme climates, I am one of those who prefer a pleasant cool and constant climate, but you have to accept seasonal changes.

Well, since I don't have any more personal things to comment on, I'd better comment on the anniversary of the #history I chose for today. I opted again for a #food theme, and in this case it is about #sweets or #treats. I think it is limited to being a national day, instead of being an international celebration, plus it is not from my country. But, I liked the celebration and I took it. Today, January 8, is 'English Toffee Day'.

Es lunes, también es la primera semana laboral real en mi país. Tal como he dicho en otras publicaciones, la primera semana del año solamente trabaja gente que le toca hacer turno, o guardias, así que es a partir de esta semana que muchas actividades se ponen realmente en marcha. En mi caso, mi #vida no cambia mucho, trabajo desde casa y no me tocó salir, así que se puede decir que mi amada clama sigue estando como siempre.

Se espera que es unas pocas semanas la temperatura aumente un poco y se sienta más apropiada para un país tropical. No es que me agrade el calor excesivo, en realidad, me desagradan los climas extremos, soy de los que prefieren un agradable clima fresco y constante, pero hay que aceptar los cambios estacionales.

Bien, ya que no tengo más cosas personales que comentar, mejor será que pasé a comentar sobre la efeméride de la #historia que escogí para hoy. Me decanté nuevamente por un tema de #comida, y en este caso es sobre #dulces o #golosinas. Creo que se limita a ser un día nacional, en lugar de ser una celebración internacional, además de que no es de mi país. Pero, me agradó la celebración y la tomé. Hoy, 8 de enero, es el ‘Día del Toffee Inglés’.

#Toffee is a type of candy that is made by caramelizing dried sweets or raisins. It can have presentations of varying consistency and hardness. In today's case, I have a celebration for a #candy that makes me somewhat curious. It turns out that, despite its name, this toffee is not native to England.

From what I read, the most common recipe for toffee is caramelizing nuts, but in the United States of America, a particular recipe was made in which the nut that was caramelized was hazelnut (whether in pieces, sliced, or ground). The origin of this sweet may be in the 19th century, which is when reference to its name is found in reference books, but I am not entirely clear.

Another striking point is that this type of candy is not really similar to those that can be found in England, where this type of candy would be called "butter crunch". Also, in Italy, the closest thing to this recipe they would be the "caramelle mou'".

El #toffee es un tipo de golosina que se elabora caramelizando dulces secos o pasas, puede tener presentaciones de consistencia y dureza variable. En el caso de hoy, tengo una celebración para un #caramelo que me causa cierta curiosidad. Sucede que, a pesar de su nombre, este toffee no es originario de Inglaterra.

Por lo que leí, la receta más común de toffee es caramelizando nueces, pero en Estados Unidos de América, se elaboró una receta particular en la que el fruto seco que se caramelizó fue avellana (ya fuera en trozos, fileteada, o molida). El origen de este dulce puede que esté en el siglo XIX, que es cuando se encuentra referencia a su nombre en libros de consulta, pero no lo tengo del todo claro.

Otro punto llamativo es que este tipo de dulce no se parece en realidad a los que se puede encontrar en Inglaterra, en donde este tipo de golosina se llamaría "butter crunch", y en Italia, lo más cercano a esta receta serían los "caramelle mou’".

In my local case, I couldn't find much of a reference. But I did remember that as a child I used to buy a bag of milk toffee candy at grocery stores, and I think it is the closest thing I remember to this day of celebration. That thing about the candies that I mention takes me back to memories of my time as a primary school student, that truly unleashes nostalgia and makes me smile.

Time has passed, and today I have not consumed a candy of this style in a long time. I guess if I have to go out these days to do some chores, then I could pay a visit to a store and buy some of these candies, partly to satisfy the desire to remember the flavor well and partly because at home we like the sweets.

Well, I'm saying goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.

En mi caso local, no pude hallar mucho de referencia, pero sí me acordé de que siendo niño solía comprar en abastos una bolsa de caramelos toffee de leche, y creo que es lo más cercano que recuerdo de este día de celebración. Eso de los caramelos que comento, me lleva a recuerdos de mis tiempos como escolar en primaria, eso en verdad que desata nostalgias y me saca sonrisas.

El tiempo ha pasado, y hoy en día no he consumido un caramelo de este estilo en mucho tiempo. Supongo que, si me toca salir en estos días a hacer algunas tareas, entonces podría hacer una visita a una tienda y comprar algunos de estos caramelos, en parte para satisfacer el deseo de recordar bien el sabor y en parte porque en casa nos gustan los dulces.

Bien, ya me voy despidiendo, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.
