[Eng+Spa] Day of the Virgen del Carmen + Día de la Virgen del Carmen

It's Sunday, we're already at night, yesterday I stayed up doing a little job, but it got complicated and I finished today at mid-morning, I didn't sleep and ended up sleeping most of today. Luckily, my brother took care of things around the house, that really helped a lot, in addition, he has asked me to sleep at night, because we have a family history of degenerative neurological diseases and not sleeping can increase the level risky. As you can understand from all this, my day has been without striking incidents to report in my #life, I like calm, but really, days like today are extremely calm.

Since there isn't much to share regarding things in my life, I can go straight to commenting on the anniversary of the #History that I saw in today's list and that a family memory awakened in me. This July 16, the 'Day of the Virgin of Carmen' is celebrated in the Catholic calendar, a very popular Marian dedication in Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and many other countries of Roman Catholic Christian tradition, by the way, it’s more complete name would be: Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This Marian dedication, which is what the different representations of the Virgin Mary are called, is the patron saint of fishermen, transporters and police officers.

It is celebrated on this date, in commemoration of her appearance (according to religious tradition) on July 16, 1251, before Saint Simon Stock, an English religious of the Order of Carmel. More precisely, he was the Superior of the Congregation of Carmelites, he was asking the heavens for interception due to the persecutions suffered by the members of the Order and the confreres, hence an image of the Mother of God appeared with an appearance that had never been registered, he gave instructions for the elaboration of portable reliquaries to hang them from the neck of the faithful, which is what from then on we call 'Scapular', and he gave the apparition the name of the religious order to which he delivered his message.

This invocation traveled with the European peninsular conquerors and colonizers during the exploration and conquest voyages of the Spanish Empire in the 15th and 16th centuries, this is how it is established in Latin America and continues to this day. I was commenting that I have a family memory regarding this date, due to the particular devotion that my paternal grandmother had for the scapular and the Virgin of Carmen. I remember well that, as a child, it caught my attention that in the representation of the Virgin, in the #church that my grandmother used to attend, she was seen sitting on a throne over purgatory (or hell, if we consider the flames) and the angels under his orders took souls out of sorrows.

My grandmother told me that they were ‘Souls in pain’ (Animas), or damned souls, and that one of the attributes of the Virgin of Carmen was redemption, even taking souls out of hell. Since I was a child, I liked the idea of redemption and the possibility that even if you fell into hell, there was still a chance of getting out of there. I admit that today, I am not very religious, rather I am quite removed from everything related to #religion, but these memories are sweet to me and I like to think about them.

Well, I suppose that the record is going to be that short, I say goodbye wishing you that you are well and that we can read each other again another time.
