Alicia had just graduated from high school, both her parents and friends were very happy, as she had been one of the best students of the high school and had graduated among the top eight students. She was really happy, and although after graduation she was on vacation for a while, now she had to decide what she was going to do for her future.
At first, Alicia wanted to study philosophy, although she was also very good at languages, her parents kept telling her that she should study a career that would allow her to get a good job, that would give her stability and security in the future.
Shortly after the vacations, Alicia met with her parents to discuss as a family what she wanted to study and what she wanted to do for her future. Her parents, both professionals, had already told her that they would respect her decision about what she wanted to study and had told her that she should be sure that her parents would support her.
When her parents asked her at dinner what she had decided to study, Alicia told them that she was going to pursue a degree in modern languages. Before her parents spoke, Alicia told them the following, "I decided to study this career, because unlike what you have been telling me, I want a profession that allows me to be an entrepreneur and to be able to start my own business doing what I like".
Her father asked her, "What do you mean? And Alicia commented, "If I do what you are proposing, I will have to take a career and I will also have to join a company and work for other people. Now, what I want is to be an entrepreneur, to be self-employed, and the career in modern languages allows me to do that, since I can start doing translations of texts, podcasts, translations of programs and I can also place part of my translations on an Internet platform, so that in the future I can provide translation and voice-over services to companies, professionals, publishers and others. That means that if I start now, when I finish college and have my degree, I will already have a portfolio of clients and I will not have to depend on a company to produce, but I will start and offer my services from my own business".
Alicia's parents looked at her and supported her; however, it was not easy for them to understand Alicia's vision, since their experience had never been to start a business, but rather to have a good job that would give them security and stability. However, they supported their daughter in
her idea of starting her own business and becoming financially independent from an early age.

5 Minutos de Escritura Libre: Alicia decide emprender. Texto original.

Alicia se acababa de graduar de bachiller, tanto sus padres ya amigos estaban muy felices, ya que había sido una de las mejores alumnas del liceo y se había graduado entre las ocho mejores estudiantes. Ella estaba realmente feliz, y aunque después de la graduación estuvo un tiempo de vacaciones, ahora debía que iba a hacer para su futuro.
En un principio, Alicia quería estudiar filosofía, aunque también era muy buena para los idiomas, sus padres le decían a cada rato que ella debía estudiar una carrera que le permitiera conseguir un buen trabajo, que le diera estabilidad y seguridad en el futuro.
Al poco tiempo de terminar las vacaciones, Alicia se reunió con sus padres para discutir en familia lo que ella quería estudiar y hacer para su futuro. Ya sus padres, ambos profesionales, le habían comentado, que respetarían la decisión que ella tomase sobre lo que quería estudiar y le habían dicho, que ella debía tener la seguridad de que sus padres la iban a apoyar.
Cuando sus padres le preguntaron en la cena que había decidido estudiar, Alicia les comentó que iba a estudiar la licenciatura en idiomas modernos. Antes de que sus padres hablarán, Alicia les dijo lo siguiente, “Decidí estudiar esta carrera, ya que a diferencia de lo que ustedes me han venido planteando, quiero una profesión que me permita emprender y poder montar mi propio negocio haciendo lo que me gusta”.
Su padre le preguntó, ¿A qué te refieres? Y Alicia les comentó, “Si hago lo que ustedes me plantean, tendré que tomar una carrera y además tendré que entrar en una empresa y trabajar para otras personas. Ahora bien, lo que yo deseo es emprender, ser autónoma, y la carrera de idiomas modernos me lo permite, ya que aun estudiando puedo iniciar haciendo traducciones de textos, podcast, traducciones de programas y además puedo colocar parte de mis traducciones, en una plataforma de internet, para en un futuro poder hacer servicios de traducción y locución a empresas, profesionales, editoriales y otros. Eso significa que si empiezo desde ahora, cuando terminé la universidad y tenga mi título, ya tendré una cartera de clientes y no tendré que depender de una empresa para producir, sino que emprenderé y ofreceré mis servicios desde mi propio negocio”.
Los padres de Alicia la miraron y la apoyaron; sin embargo, para ellos no era fácil entender la visión de Alicia, ya que su experiencia nunca había sido la de emprender un negocio, sino la de tener un buen trabajo que les diera seguridad y estabilidad. Sin embargo, apoyaron a su hija en
su idea de emprender su negocio y de independizarse económicamente desde su más temprana edad.
