I should have known that it would not take just one and a half hours of easy cycling. I know my niece, she sometimes goes hardcore in these cycling adventures so the promised easy let's ride a bike a little experience would not be a joke. We agreed yesterday afternoon to make a small excursion on bikes this morning; others were invited too but in the end just the two of us went. My niece and I.
She offered me a better bike, there was a spare one from her boyfriend but it was too high for me. I went with this very old and rusty bicycle that I usually use when I am here. It serves me well to move around in the town but for bike trails... Do you think it is a suitable one? 😂
I know, not really the best option but here we go. It is better to ride this one than to fall from a bike that is too big for me. Short breakfast and a cup of coffee and we were ready.
She picked the route. I let her choose it as she has an application where she records her cycling tours and knows better the area. As I said, the plan was a route of one and a half hours. Her requirement was: No complaints allowed!
Ok, I can do it. {I thought haha}
The first stop was Anja, the bird whose gaze goes over the river Danube.
Then we turned to the real route which mainly looked like this. An asphalted road that follows the river and the forests and fields on the other side.
Sometimes I wanted to stop to take a few photos of the beehives. They always remind me of summer and the beehives we had when I was a child.
Then we used the opportunity to take some photos of the shadows that were following us. Don't know why we could not escape from them! 😁
My niece is a spy, she proved it with this shot. I didn't know she was spying on me and the car that was passing me at that moment.
We passed by Liberland Village too... A place I visited last year. Let me find those posts if you want to see what is hiding there, behind the trees. Here you can see how nice it is, and there is also my vehicle (the same as I used today) in one of the photos. ;)
The asphalted road became a bit worse in the part when we had to turn toward this picnic area which is so nice. There is a wooden pier and little boats that you reach from the same pier.
One year I tried to swim here and said never again 😂. The grass and water lilies in the water touched my legs and I didn't like to think that it could be also a snake or a frog... so... let's stay on the ground.
Amazon of Europe bike trail board which explains this stage 15. Actually, it is a bit different, we should have cycled to the next city but then it would not be a circular route. We had to go back to our starting point.
Still on the same pier but taking some last photos before we continued the route. Here started the suffering part where I was not allowed to complain, as I promised my niece I would not. Enjoy a moment more of this view before you come with us to our little detour.
Here it is. The detour that was not planned. Half planned actually, as my company and guide cycled here two years ago without any problems but now it resulted as a suffering stage which in the end we ditched.
It started relatively well - with a lot of grass but it was manageable... although my legs were already scratched by the shrubs and dry grass.
We had to follow the canal and end up close to one abandoned railway bridge which you will see later. A pity the path was completely overgrown with weeds and bushes.
The moment we realized it would not be possible to continue here... now I have scratches on my arms and legs. It was a battle with the vegetation where we surrendered.
Anyway, it was just one battle and not the whole adventure. We turned and found again the asphalted road, stopped at one hunting blind where I was offered to climb... I skipped that activity, look how tall it was. 😲
We went toward the next village using this road which was a good option but a longer route for sure. Some voices started to talk in my head... tienes hambre... tenías que traer algo de comida...
I tried not to listen to them. I had water :)
Next stage - we reached the regional road that connects two towns. We cycled already toward our town and crossed one bridge to have a little stop and see the railway bridge. The one we would cross but the path overgrown with weeds messed up the plans.
In total, we cycled two hours and twenty minutes, with the little stops and fight with the shrubs. My niece already mentioned another route for tomorrow (which I can't go to as I have other commitments already)... Who is brave enough to go with her? 😁
{I think I'll be up for a new route if I survive today and my legs or knees don't hurt too much.}
