The initiative of #memoirmonday by @ericvancewalton has been bringing questions that dig deep into our history. It tasks our memories and tries to awaken the forgotten events of our lives. We have had several experiences right from our school days even unto these days when most of us are already getting old.
The beautiful and fun about the #memoirmonday is that it is truthful and realistic. The fun in it is really entertaining when we recall these silly and noble aspects of our existence story.
Talking about the storybooks I have read, I could recall that I was the type who liked reading stories. But the ugly part of my story is that of a poor background where buying books was the last thing my Dad could think of. But my Mum was a teacher in the primary schools. So, she was always equipped with various textbooks as the government was responsible for providing the teachers with the materials they needed for their work.
I took turns reading various storybooks from my Mum's shelf. She was always in possession of one textbook or the other. The most interesting of the books were the Macmillan English Textbooks. These series were available from Primary One to Primary Six. In each of the series, there was a character who was the major character in the story. The stories written for each character was usually what the pupils in that level would read for the whole school year. Usually, the character was portrayed in the same class as the pupils using the book.
There was an interesting character which I could easily remember. That was Edet. Edet was the character in the Primary Three English Textbook. Edet lived in Calabar. He had a sister by name Nneka. Edet was in Primary Three.
Edet loved playing football. He was in the school football team. Edat was a brilliant boy also. He was always helpful to his parents. Edet's parents loved him.
I could remember most of the details in the story. But I used to loved the Edet's story in the Macmillan Primary English Textbook, Book 3. Spare me that I couldn't tell the stories in detail, it has been a long time ago.
