Greetings!
While scrolling on Facebook earlier this morning, I came across a post about how we used to celebrate Christmas and have maximum fun. The whole thing took me back down memory lane and I couldn't stop laughing and reminiscing.
Of a truth, the way we celebrate Christmas today, compared to the early 2000s, has a big difference. I mean, a very big difference. These days, the things people do for fun are not what we knew back then.
Let me not say too much with many talks; instead, let me bring those unique ways to your reading.
First of all, Christmas in those days was more fun in the rural areas compared to urban areas—or is it because I grew up in the village? No way!
On Christmas day, one of the most compulsory things for every kid was moving around, eating, and getting money.
Yeah, after eating the delicacies from our Mama's pot, we would dress up in our Christmas wear (a cloth purchased specifically for Christmas), move in groups, and storm the streets. Usually, we would start from the neighbor’s house, and we didn’t need any announcement or introduction to let them know when we arrive. Once the father, mummy, or grown-up child of the family we visited saw us, they would jubilate, say beautiful things about our fine Christmas dresses, and after that, the mother of the house would rush into the kitchen to quickly bring out food.
The mother, or anyone in charge of the kitchen, knew that they shouldn’t waste time bringing food because we had many places to visit and couldn’t get stuck in one house for an hour.
Usually, eating would become tiring because we had already eaten before leaving the house, but we couldn’t just let the food go to waste. We would eat half and then pause to collect our money. Yes, it was a must for them to give us money for visiting the house. Once we collected the money, we would move in our squad to the next house.
That’s how we would go around all the houses we knew were related to our family. Most times, we would even enter houses that weren’t actually related to us, and we didn’t mind. Yes, we would eat well and still collect money.
These days, things have really changed, and children can’t be allowed to move around to eat food on Christmas day due to fear of the unknown.
Such a beautiful and fun time we had while growing up.
