Halftime!

in LeoFinance10 months ago

It may surprise you, but I'm no spring chicken ;)

And right now, at this point in my life I'm having what is called a mid-life crisis. Yup, I'm at that glorious point in our lives where (God willing) we're starting on the back half of the journey. I have less years ahead of me, than in front of me and of course, this has led to quite a bit of soul searching.

I remember reading a book called 'Halftime' where the author made this argument:

We spend the first half of our lives trying to make as much money as we can. And then the next half, we try to give it all away and do good things for people with it.

The author stated, as long as you were taken care of and your family was...It was your duty as a citizen of the earth to 'give it all away'. Which is fine on paper, but then you have situations like yours truly is in lol

I spent the first half of my life, trying to make as much money as I could. But in the process, I was a prick at times. I hurt a lot of people along the way from the words I said, and generally didn't mature until I hit my 40's. So don't worry if you aren't perfect yet young ones, you WILL screw up, that's part of the journey.

But part of being an entrepreneur is that, nothing is guaranteed. I was foolish with my decisions, business and personal, and because of that, I'm at 'halftime' with what you see right here on the blockchain. Hey, I'm grateful, don't get me wrong. However with this soul searching I've been doing over the past few years, I've yet to 'plan my attack' over the back nine....

Until today!

It became crystal clear to me what is going to happen to me personally over the next few years and I'll share a lot of that over the next few weeks with you guys. But I know what I'll be doing on chain a lot more.

You see, I don't have 'things to give away' other than...My upvotes and engagement ;) My support. My passion for this community!

So my goals on chain aren't to 'accumulate as much as I can' anymore. It's literally, to give out as many votes as I can, help spread things around and do my part to help decentralize this blockchain and platform as much as I can.

In the process, I should be able to grow my accounts but that is no longer my focus. You know what my focus is....Other people. And I spent the first have of this life being a selfish prick....That changes today. So while on paper, the 'Halftime' book makes a lot of sense....To me it's being able to serve as many people and help as many as I can.

I know this seems a little vague right now, but it'll all make sense to you guys over the next few weeks :)

Until then....Think about this concept of approaching 'halftime' in your life. There is nothing wrong with accumulating and making sure you and your family are taken care of. But after that.....What do you want your legacy to be?

I pray that people remember that on my back 9, I lived a live serving others and helping people on their journey as much as I can!

Big things are coming.....Even for this middle aged dude!

It's a long journey and I wonder what I will do when it happens to me. I think those failures still taught you quite a bit even if it does hurt. I do think Hive will do well and hopefully it works out for all of us here.

I hope so. Long term on Hive I'm on the fence, but the layer 2 stuff I am very bullish on.

I think this change in perspective can bring along many realizations. Life's progression from being selfish to selfless, from serving ourselves to serving others can be a wonderful experience. Good luck on the journey ahead :)

That's the thinking for sure. I just want to give more than I have taken when my time is up.

Thanks for this. We can’t be perfect so if we are not perfect as a young star, we should take things easy on us and just keep moving
You said well

That's the mentality for sure!!

In my view, many people spend more than what they earn in the first half and in the second half (or too late in life) they realize and search for whatever they last in the first half.

Can't live with regrets!

Sometimes with the pursue of money, we discovered that everything quite is in vain at the end of the day

Can't take the money when we leave the earth!

My original goal on here was all about me. Then I started to realize just how great it is here. My new goal is to be big enough that I can change some lives with my upvote. I know what you mean about the halfway point thing! I was filling out a survey the other day and I realized there were fewer age groups above me than there were below me. It was humbling!

Yeah man, I think that's why I love this community because it is built on win-win. We upvote people, we can change people's lives.

Hmm, that's an age with a lot of soul-searching for many of us, I'm sure! I wouldn't feel comfortable switching from an accumulation mode to a "distribution mode" just yet, but I do try to help out here and there when and where I can.

Distribution mode is done by upvotes ;)

So I want to upvote as much as I can going forward!

Then I do some of that. Not as much as you do, from what I've seen.

I never would have classified you as selfish just so you know. Most here see you as a generous dude. Excited to see how many you will help though. Looking forward to it.

Oh I had my moments man. Immature and just rude to some folks. That being said, I've tried to live a bit better over my time here on the blockchain. So that side of Jongo hasn't appeared here ever LOLOL

I totally get that halftime thing since a couple of years already, and what a time to be alive haha! Its mad to think though our generation might not have an end date with the way tech is going.. Been thinking about that a lot too, witnessing the old circle put ya finger in a hole house telephones, compared to today's tech and then 30 years from now!!

Oh it's crazy to think about the tech for sure. 30 years from now. Just insane.

There is no more halftime amigo haha! But anyway good that you did the time and depending what industry you were in,being a prick was rewarded haha! Now its time to live truly :)

We'll let you off - MOST people hit 40 with no significant wealth. It's not necessarily your bad decisions it's macro stuff too.

Giving strategically can pay back for sure - I managed to leverage a voluntary job into paid work after only a few months!

Oh for sure. Do I wish I did things differently, sure. But at the time, I had no thought of the future. Indestructible youth and all that.

What is it they say...? Youth is wasted on the Young!

ha ha ha ha ha ha true!!

Life is a journey with imperfect steps that must be taken.

But always moving forward!

The problem is we have less or more limited time when it comes to "give it all away" :)

Each of us has 1140 minutes a day max...we just need to allocate it properly!
