Today I gave the yard some much needed attention. I raked all the leaves and mowed the grass. This may be the last lawn mowing of the season until next spring.
I noticed a large dead branch on the maple tree in the back yard, so I got a ladder and managed to remove the dead branch. It took some effort to chop up the large dead branch in to a size fit for our fire pit.
The big project is in the front: we have an entire elm that perished last summer. We can't afford a professional tree removal service, so it's up to me to break it down little by little. I decided to do a little.
This tree has been bare all summer, it's just a bunch of dead sticks in our front yard. I decide to cut down the branch on the right. It's almost 1/3rd of the tree!
It only took about 30 minutes to get the large branch down. I was concerned where it might land when it hits the ground!
It took longer to chop up the large branch, then cutting it down! My children helped move the cut pieces into the back next to our fire pit.
It was very satisfying seeing it gone. I used a battery powered chain saw that is very limited in what it can do. It's very useful for small jobs, but I would have to recharge it a lot to cut this entire tree down.
I swept up the sidewalk and put away all the tools. We have plenty of firewood for our fire pit now!
A few more sessions on the tree and the whole thing will be down. Perhaps we could plant a new tree there, or not. Either way, having the dead tree gone would be a relief.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.
Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.
