We've enjoyed these last few days, and have really eaten way more than we should have (its the British way at Christmas), and so today we took a good long walk in and out of town, to try and help balance out some of those calories.
We took our usual short cut through the grounds of the gallery of modern art. Above is one of their outdoor installations. My wife always says its just a pile of rocks - lol ! I quite like it though. Thats a really cool graveyard behind (Stock Bridge) - its quite pretty in its own right.
The gallery itself is quite a nice building, with a nice greek-temple- style frontage.
On down the hill and we passed the church above which is now a hostel (for backpackers - I think) - its quite a pretty red brick building.
Further along we passed above the Village of Dean, and the people living in the mock-Tudor building below have quite an interesting back garden with all their flags on display !
Once we got close to town, I spotted a building that I hadnt really noticed before - its The Royal College of Physicians - quite pretty out front !!!
And further along the same street, we passed the Scottish Portrait Gallery-another lovely red brick building, and also well worth a look inside.
Up on Princes Street, I took this view of the Scott Monument and the Christmas market which is still going strong in Princes Street Gardens - the market will be there until after new year. In Edinburgh, New year is a very big deal - and the whole of Princes Street (the main street in town) gets barriered of for a massive street party. The market will do pretty well that night, with all the party goers - thats for sure !
Then one the way back home, I took the pic above from a bridge in Stock Bridge. But dont worry, that is actually a bronze statue, not a real person ! Its part of an art installation that runs all the way from the modern art gallery, and down the Water of Leith (a river) to the sea. I hadnt noticed that one before, so when I first saw it I had to look twice !
And then as we were getting closer to home, we started to get a nice pink effect in the sky for sunset - although it didnt last too long.
Well we had a nice walk into town, about 5-6 miles round trip to help burn of some calories - Although we did stop at 5 Guys for a burger (ooops !), and then may have had a few other treats when we got home - so hopefully it all about balances each other out !
I hope you are having a great day wherever you are - all the best from Scotland - cheers !
