STIR THE POT, ROCK THE BOAT!!!!

Pele goes out on a limb with the post below his first statment: "...people are afraid of downvotes and other backstabbing" is so true. Most people are afraid to stir the pot or rock the boat because of those fears.

I want to thank @pele23 for the inspiration for this post.

I am going to quote and respond to statements from his post. Here for full reading is the link to his post: Changing Hive from the inside: what witnesses to vote on?

"Most of the accounts have no clue who they are voting for as witnesses, and let that be essential in the path to changing Hive from the inside. "

I could not agree more. I did not have a clue when I first joined. I first proxied my votes out to let someone else use my votes as they saw fit. Second when I stopped that, I automaticlly voted for the top 20. Not saying that is a bad thing. The bad thing is I did no research into the people/witnesses I was voting for. 30 votes is a lot, I am still working on researching people. And I change my votes as I see fit.

"So, I have a question for everybody who dares to answer, which witnessess need to be dropped out of the top 20 and which need to be entered in! I have already a few witnesses I am sure off, that have the right mindset to do the best for Hive, that is** theBBHproject** (aka @bradleyarrow), Leofinance by @khaleelkazi and town-hall by @l337m45732, @anomadsoul and @taskmaster4450.

But here comes the million dollar question that could have a huge impact on your account and your wallet, which other witnesses to vote in?

Be my guest, drop them in the comments, and tell me why... I won't judge anyone!"

The first part of this: who dares to answer. And you know what, besides a comment from me, only 1 person answered. Read into that what you will.
Pele listed three witnesses I am proud that I was one of them. Never in my life did I think I would be mentioned in the same sentence with the other two. I am pround of the fact that I was.

That brings up the question that people don't like to hear. Are you going to keep sitting there complaining, bitching about things, or are you going to take the time and effort to start researching and voting for Witnesses you believe in.

That being said, I am NOT asking for you vote, I am asking you to look at everything and why you are voting for who you are.

I am even going to remove my usual daily updates from this post so you are left with only what is above to think about.

It's important to review witness votes every few months and re-evaluate. If more people did this regularly, the entire list would be different right now. !BBH

I'd love to see a mechanic where votes have to be renewed every 12 months. Hopefully that would encourage people to review their choices, as well as eliminating the zombie votes.

I believe Hive-Engine witness votes expire every 6 months.

Ah, that sounds good ! If it's coded for Hive-Engine, it might make it easier to code for Hive itself. That hard bit would be getting consensus, of course....

Okay, I'll bite :D

The real issue is that a lot of the time, we don't have a much information to base our decision on.

Witnesses might be doing great work behind the scenes, but unless they publicise it (and a lot of the best people feel that self-promotion is immoral), we don't know to vote for them.

I have a suspicion (admittedly without evidence) that a lot of the top 20 witnesses hold onto their positions due to what I think of as "zombie" votes - people who voted, but have gone inactive and the vote just sticks around foerever.

I'll also hold my hand up to voting for my own self-interest. I prefer to vote for witnesses who support a 20% APR for HBD. This is a complex one because if a witness is supporting a lower interest rate but really working hard for Hive in other ways, I'll vote for them. It's a balance, not a black & white thing. To my mind, the DHF gives out far too many HBD in proposals, and a 20% interest rate is a way to balance it out with a better return for Hivers who create content, curate and all the other "small people" things that keep the ecosystem alive. The one thing I hate is someone who is getting big proposal payouts from the DHF but wants a lower interest rate to inflict less returns on ordinary users.

Every so often I'll get a nominal amount of HIVE or HBD from someone asking for votes. Although it might come across as slightly tacky, I recognise the effort they've gone to. It gets me to look at their profile when I might not have. But whether I vote for them is entirely determined by what they do for Hive and if I think they deserve it.

What I'd love to see is for a link from PeakD and other "witness voting stations" for each witness to what is effectively their manifesto. Why do they dupport the APR they do ? What do they do for Hive as a whole ? What skills and competencies do they bring to the table ?

This last one is important for me; I believe that we've got too many witnesses who are developers, and not enough with a business, marketing or finance background.

Sorry - I wrote a post as a reply :D

I agree with you and on your observation. I appreciate your clear presentation of your POV and I learned many things from this post. I hope that Hive will have witnesses who would catapult it to the foreground. All the best !BBH

Amen, the sad part is, very little people really dare to answer the question. And the other don’t even know what the voting is for! I really hope this gives you and the others I mentioned a push towards the top 20. 3 out of 20 would already give some leverage!
