Jellyfish are fascinating marine animals that I love. Those of you who regularly read my articles know how much I love the sea and nature. I love to dive and watch animals interact in their natural environment.
And jellyfish are one of my favorite creatures to watch. That beauty combined with those gentle, elegant movements are capable of captivating me when I'm down there.
One of my favorite jellyfish is the Cyanea capillata or lion's mane. I have only been able to see it once since it lives in very cold waters, but its large tentacles of more than 30 meters really impress anyone.
Another of my favorites is the Cotylorhiza tuberculata or fried egg. I see it every summer since it is a fairly common Mediterranean jellyfish. It looks like a fried egg, hence its name, and it is totally harmless to people.
There are many other wonderful jellyfish that live in our seas and oceans. They perform very important functions in the ecosystem, so although they can sometimes be annoying, it is best to let them live in peace.
