A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.
Everyone seems to have noticed that it is too hot in the city. In fact, sunny places are avoided to avoid melting in the sun. But for a Alive’s the sun is life, it is the day after the night and the best protagonist of the summer.
The palindromic stage of my #iamalivechallenge is dedicated to the search of yet another hidden gem of the city in less known places of the beautiful city bathed in the waters of the Gulf of Naples.
We are on the hill of Pizzofalcone or Mount Echia. Its name comes from "pizzo" or mountain peak and Falcone which is the main activity on the hill or hunting with the hawk.
Arrived at the beautiful metro station of the art line 1 to Via Toledo I went down the magnificent street that leads to Piazza Plebiscito and from behind the Basilica of San Francesco da Paola I walked to Pizzofalcone.
At the end of the road I found myself in front of the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Pizzofalcone. A jewel whose construction began in 1587 and was completed in early 1610.
The church is a jewel of Neo-Renaissance art rich in illustrations of liturgical life. It was designed by Francesco Grimaldi who completed it with the current appearance. N later had to undergo a couple of renovations. The last because of the damage suffered during the Second World War.
In the first chapel of the church there are sculptures for the tombs of the Serra family of Gerace created by the great Neapolitan master of stone Tito Angelini. They are excellent workmanship and attention to detail.
Naples could boast an exceptionally talented jurist, Giuseppe de Gemmis, whose remains are housed in an exceptional tomb with his face carved in marble.
Of remarkable workmanship is also the expulsion of the temple on the entrance door with marble statues on its sides and the tombstones on the walls from the impression of an elegant and sober simplicity. But it always leaves you breathless.
Arrived under the altar and raised his eyes to the sky to observe the dome the viewer is in front of wonderful descriptive frescoes. It depicts the exaltation of the Blessed Virgin Mary whose life is narrated throughout the church.
The church is formed by three naves arranged in a Latin cross and is covered with innumerable ideas of inestimable pictorial value so as to seem a real great museum.
The frescoes in the vault of the central nave, divided into four sections that describe the life of the Virgin Mary, are also very beautiful.
The visit to the church took me a long time but the day is coming to an end and I have to return because from there half an hour the church would have closed.
Then to set off home I take the road of Santa Maria Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone (the second church dedicated to this saint in the city)
and I go down along an old ruin from which they seemed to come out of the sinister noises.
The descent took me in front of the Castel dell'Ovo that was taking the last rays of the sun before sunset.
The sun, however, did not seem to want to move towards the bed because we are on the second longest day of the year.
In fact, the gigantic Virgilian castle looked quite tanned. Evidently he had used a tan with walnut husk oil.
I took a picture of the mountain I came from before I went to the subway. Here we are at the entrance of the elevator construction site that are being built to get to the panoramic hill. But the intense activities are being extended as from regulations for all the partenopei yards in the centuries of the centuries.
My #iamalivechallenge 383 ends in the subway station of Piazza Municipio built between the foundations of the castle of Maschio Angioino or Castel Nuovo. A really #alive and thrive day.
Finally, I would like to thank all my friends from the tribe of #Alive and all the new friends who happened between the lines of my stories for reading my thoughts and see you at the next #actifit report.
