Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, thursday the 26/09/2024 in history.
We begin today from the world of explorers and exploration. Do you know that on this day in 1580, following nearly three years at sea, English Admiral Francis Drake finished his circumnavigation of the globe when he arrived in Plymouth Harbour, England.
From the world of explorers and exploration, we move over to the world of music and entertainment. Do you also know that on this day in 1969, The Beatles released their final album, Abbey Road (Let It Be was released in 1970, but it was primarily recorded earlier).
From the world of music and entertainment, we move over to France. Now, on this day in 2019, French politician Jacques Chirac, who served as President of France from 1995 to 2007 and Prime Minister from (1974–76, 1986–88) died at the age of 86 in Paris.
From France, we move over to the United States of America. Do you know that on this day in 1981, Serena Williams, an American tennis player who, with her forceful style of play, transformed women's tennis and won more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than any other woman or man during the open period, was born in Saginaw, Michigan, U.S.A.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from India. Do you know that on this day in 1932, Manmohan Singh an Indian economist and politician who served as Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 was born in Gah, West Punjab, India [now in Pakistan].
