Today is marked world over as Boxing Day: a day now usually marked with the exchange of gifts and it comes.a day after Christmas. Let's begin our look at history from China.
We begin today from China [The birthday of Mao Zedong]. On this day in 1893, Communist and Chinese leader Mao Zedong was born in Shaoshan, Hunan province, China.
From China, we move over to South Africa [the death of Desmond Tutu]. Do you also know that on this day in 2021, Desmond Tutu, a South African Anglican cleric and archbishop who was vocal against the oppressive apartheid in South Africa which opposition earned him in 1984 the award of Nobel Prize for Peace, died in Cape Town, South African.
From South Africa, we move over to Estonia [the birthday of Toomas Hendrik Ilves]. Now, on this day in 1953, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, an Estonian politician who was President of Estonia from 2006 – 2016 was born in Stockholm, Sweden.
From Estonia, we move over to East Timor [the birthday of José Ramos-Horta]. Do you know that on this day in 1949, José Ramos-Horta an East Timorese politician who became East Timor’s Prime Minister from 2006 –2007 and also President from 2007 – 2012 and 2022 – till date was born in Dili, East Timor.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Africa, Togo [the posthumous birthday 🎂 of Gnassingbé Eyadéma]. Do you know that on this day in 1935, Gnassingbé Eyadéma, a Togolese soldier whose real name was Étienne Eyadéma, who became President of Togo following a coup d’état in 1967 and remained in power till his death in 2005 following a heart attack, was born in Pya, Togoland now Togo.
