If you live in Venezuela you probably experienced again today something that we thought it might come but not so soon and so unexpectedly, in 2019 we suffered a national blackout where the whole country literally went dark, we always remember those days that if I remember correctly were 4 or 5 days without electricity, IT WAS HORRIBLE AND COMPLETE CHAOS, It was to be expected that it would happen again, being in the hands of inept people in charge who only blame others for their mistakes, however, despite being something that was foreseen because days ago we have experienced nationwide blackouts, today sincerely took me by surprise.
I thought it would be a normal day if we can call normal to wake up without electricity, which should not happen but we are used to power outages from time to time, I woke up very early without electricity and without signal on my cell phone, the signal was very strange but at that time I still did not suspect anything, the hours passed and everything felt strange, something was not right, my husband also had no signal and his phone line is never without signal when there is no light, at that time my suspicions began but we had no way to communicate with anyone or check the news.
At some point in the afternoon, waiting for the power to come on I panicked and despaired because my husband told me that the power went out since 4 am at that time he woke up because he felt that everything went out, this made the situation more serious because it was not only since I woke up but since before, I started to think about the possibility of a new national blackout and despite having almost no battery it occurred to me to activate the radio on my cell phone and right there we confirmed the worst, it was indeed a national blackout, in those moments you get an anguish of not knowing when the electricity will return, not knowing anything about your family, you worry about the food you have in your fridge and besides that today I had to buy more food that we needed.
My cell phone battery died and we decided to leave home to check the street, unfortunately I could not take pictures because my cell phone turned off, but it was really shocking to relive that horrible year 2019 again, I could not believe it until I saw all the stores closed, some opened in the dark and only receiving cash payments, I could not buy absolutely no food because I did not have the cash so we went back home.
At home the situation was difficult because explaining this to my 6 year old son is not easy, he was very restless and upset because there was no light, I tried to distract him and also to distract myself.
My father in law didn't know anything about us and suddenly he showed up at our house, he was worried and we were worried about him too, luckily he was fine, he couldn't even go to work today.
After 14 hours without electricity he finally arrived, we are scared that it will leave again, gave me time to go quickly to buy the things we needed, but I feel it was a very fucked up day, I am sick of all this crap.
I can only be thankful that this time it was not 5 days without electricity, but just one day was enough to show that we are not only under a dictatorship, but we also have a terrible quality of life because of the government, many hospitals depend on electricity for their patients and many people today suffered because of that, there was no subway or railroad transportation, almost all the states of Venezuela without electricity, without being able to have contact with our family, a terrible anguish.
At this hour my mother is still without electricity, it has been 17 hours and she is still in that dark house.
